So a little over a week ago I started seeing these seeing these thing sometimes. Its like when you look through sun light and you see little particles floating through the air, well I see that a couple times a day without the sun. I knew this wasn't suppose to be happening so I contacted my pediatrician who told me I needed to come in and get it looked at. When I did he diagnosed with something called floaters which is I guess when little pieces of debris get in the eye and float around but aren't harmfull just annoying when you see them. However, because this particular symptom can also be a symptom of retinal detachment and I have a connective tissue disorder, which leaves me at high risk for retinal detachment I was told I had to go see my pediatric opthamologist. When we called her, we got another dr. who apologized saying that she was out of the clinic for the next week but he was monitioring her calls and did not like the sound of mine. We quickly went over my history including the connective tissue disorder and how that was cause for concern how I am severley near sighted how that was cause for concern also and how I had within the last year and half been diagnosed with strabismus or a weakening of the eye muscle due to my connective tissue disorder which was also cause for concern. Because of all this he told me we could not wait to see my normal doctor and offered me an appointment in his schedule this week, this morning at 8:15 actually ( amazing as it usually takes over 2 months to get in to see any doctor at their clinic). So I am off today to see him, and find out if my retinas are truly detaching or if it is just floaters like my pediatrician thought. The last time I was in for an eye exam, they looked closely at my retinas and said that they looked good but need to keep a close eye on them because one looked like it may start detaching. Wish me luck today :) I will let you know how it goes!

Hope things are going well for you. But how do you get rid of floaters??????

Hey,
I never did get rid of the floaters! They are still there, and they tell me they always will be because they are a result of me being so nearsighted. There is apparently nothing that can be done.

Just isn't right that they don't do more rewearch on floaters.
I also have floaters, and for the most part I can just ignore them, but sometimes they can get annoying.
I have macular degeneration in my right eye and just a week ago had an exam from a Retina Specialist actually the director of the Macular/Retina hospital in Portland. This is a huge research facility.
My right eye has just peripheral vision but stable, and I need to watch my left eye to make sure is ok. Coincidently I asked about floaters at my appointment and was told that floaters can be removed, BUT because it is an invasive surgery they would do this procedure only if you happen to have some other surgery on your eye and they could be removed at the same time. The doctor told that they are just small particles that slough off in your eye and they are NOT harmful or a sign of any type of malady. They are not harmful and most people get them sometime in their life and they are nothing to worry about.
I wonder…why are you going to a pediatric ophthalmologist?
Hey!! So I was going to a peds opthamalogist because I had been seeing her since I was in 2nd grade. Because I have a genetic disorder I end up seeing pediatric specialist longer than normal. I am now seeing one of her parteners who is an adult ophthamalogist. I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta and problems with my retina because of it.
