update on Blood comming from the ear

Hey everyone,

So I went into the on campus Health Center yestereday where it was quickly confirmed that I had blood in my ear ( I was thinking well no duh) and then was told that I have an ear infection and a ruptured eardrum.  What keeps happening that keeps causing these ear infections, I don't know.... This year alone, I have had over 6 ear infections when before this I hadn't had an ear infection in over 6 years.  Its very frustrating.  I am on oral antibiotics and yet again a new type of ear drops.  I have to go see my ENT, who may as much as he doesn't want to have to put a P.E. tube into my ear and do a tympanoplasty to fix the hole.  When I am going to get this done, I don't know because I have to work this summer, so my guess would be that i would live with it untill August unless he can fit me into his schedule for surgery on one of my breaks from school.  He has a good reason for not wanting to put the P.E. tube into that ear, because once it falls out, it will leave a hole that my body because of the connective tissue disorder will not repair, last time that I had a tube in that ear once it fell out I was left with a hole that was 80% of my eardrum.  He had to go in and surgically repair it.  However if I am going to keep getting ear infections and then holes from the infection because my normal eustachian tubes don't work  ( they may as well be non existant) then there is really no point in not having the tube because I am just going to keep getting holes anyways.  Anyways, Thanks for letting me vent this is all kind of frustrating because I am losing my hearing because of it. I have no hearing now in that ear, and I don't have good hearing in the other ear to begin with.  Thanks to everyone on this site, you are all so kind and thoughtfull and helpfull!

First I want to say thanks to Lisabethk and Pinkers! Then I want to say URRRG!! My ENT is on vacation and so I don't know when this will all be resolved... most likely by the time he gets back it will all have setted down and whatever was causing it will have mysteriously disappeared and so nothing will get done just like the last a thousand times.  He was on vacation the last time it happened. I don't want to switch ENT's, he is great, without him, I would be DEAF. I know this... he saved my hearing did something when everyone else gave up, but still this is getting ridiculous.

I feel your pain!  I have not seen a doctor of any kind in 14 years until this year when I had to see a doctor twice for my first ear once for the second ear infection I had.  I never had them until this year when I went swimming in my friend's neighbor's pool on 6-25-09. A week after my left ear felt plugged up like with water and couldn't hear well and had a ringing in that ear as well.  I decided to go see a doctor for my ear, on first visit 7-2-09 looked in my ear said I had an infection and gave me perscriptions for ear drops and ammoxicillian and said don't swim for a week. He also said to come back in one week for recheck, which I did on 7-7. I then went swimming at the same house on 7-11 and ears would plug up but would unplug themselves and again went swimming on 7-13 and after that had a plugged up ear. This time it was in my right ear, that visit on 7-16to the doctor for that one was all they did was use Peroxide and warm water filled syringe type bottle and flushed out wax in my ear four times. My friend and another neighbor said I probably got them because they don't check the balance of the pool and the chemicals in it PH, chlorine, etc.I also recently went swimming at a ramada Hotel pool with my cousins when I was at the racine County fair with my family in wisconsin, while swimming there i aslo had plugged ears but as i continued and they seemed to unplug themselves which was good.
