Hello, My name is Amy Nehlsen.  I saw your blog about Tourette's Syndrome.  I would love to be able to educate people around the world about Tourette.  I am 36 years old and have had Tourette since I was 8.  I understand how you feel.  I am not doing well.  My tics are getting severe and I was on Orap but am now on Risperdal.  The doctor changed my med because she wants to be able to treat my depression and anxiety also.  The sad thing is that I don't have insurance because it costs to much and I am in need of an EEG and also in need of seeing a neurologist.  I hate having Tourette.  I sometimes feel like a freak because I can feel or see people looking at me.  It's even worse to have Tourette as an adult because people are so cruel.  I understand how your boys feel because I was made fun of alot when I was a child.  I feel frustrated all the time because I have had it for so long and I have let it become me instead of a part of me.  The tics plus depression plus the anxiety does not make it easy on me.  And the simple fact that I have been denied disability and have to see if a lawyer will take my case, OMG!!

I thought this might be helpful for all who would like to understand tourette syndrome from someone whos lived with it all there lives.Now I live in North Carolina so I'm not sure what channels you would have to turn to to see this but on Sunday night December 7,2008 theres a movie coming on ,its based on a true story of a young man who had a horrible time as a child in school as our children are now.The movie is called,"Front of the Class,How I became the Teacher that I never had".It comes on channle CBS.at 9:00pm.I truly hope that everyone can virw this it is supposed to be very inspirring.The young mans name is"Brad Cohen",if you are not able to view this then he has also written a book with the same title.Wishing you all the best.Tammy

I know what made you go into a tizzy it made me mad as well that she either didn't bother to read the whole thing or just didn't care enough about your post to read it just skim over it. I just didn't want you to think that I was like her and not take the time to read or understand your posts before opening my mouth and and making cooments that I have no right in making. I was just Very tired when I wrote that and still have had only 2 1/2 hours of sleep today, I really care about you and only want the best for your entire family  and have really enjoyed talking to you and keeping up with how your boys are doing. It's always nice to make new friends from different places and I count you as a  friend though we have just talked over this site.

Please don't think that my comment about you having rare things was a jab at you in anyway, I was simply trying to ease your mind about how and why things happen to different people and how diffenent people react to different things, my mom has never reacted to things in the way "texbook" way so you are just a small part of those who help out others' who will follow. I don't know if any of this made any sense to you, I tired but my dog is sick so I'm staying up to sit with her and it's 2:16 in the morning.

Sorry to hear about you MRI results,if you have to have surgery you will be just fine,and my prayers will be with you.My husband had it done less than a year ago,he great now.Just know you will have to have somebody to help you in every way for awhile.Do you have family and friends that can?I also hope everything goes well for your DAD.Take care.

How did your MRI go, I really hope no surgery is not needed but if it is I hope all goes well and you and your entire family will be in my thoughts and in my prayers as you are always. Please let me know if there is anything I can do, as I told Veronica I know we may live in different states but I can and will do all I can. I hope the boys are doing well.

I have not watched the show yet today on tourettes it comes on at 3:00 here in Utah but I will be watching.I hope they do a good jobs explaining about it so people will understand and be more compassionate.We need more of that in this world!!!! I guess the Doctors board heard us when some of us said it would be a good topic.Take Care.
