Well My son was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 3. And now he is 6. He was taking 10 mg. for 2 years and now the school said he was getting outa control, so the doctor upped it to 15mg. His teacher said he has got worse and no sign of improvement after being on 15mg for a month. I wander if this is a normal dose for this age ?Or could it be upped with out making him have a more harder time getting to sleep at night Or is it time to try something else. Just want some comments from other people than the doctor. Thank you for reading.

Maybe he needs to try another medication.

Hi,
I am a Registered Sleep Tech, I was curious as to whether your son has any difficulty sleeping at night? Snoring, Difficulty going to sleep, sleeping in strange positions, getting more and more wound up until he just kinda passes out to sleep? Many teachers, parents and even many doctors are not aware that a sleep disorder can cause the same symptoms as ADHD. The real problem is when children with a sleep disorder are put on medications for ADHD which are uppers it causes changes in their sleep (mainly Insomnia) causing less sleep which actually can make the problem with hyper activity worse. Children that are sleepy, unlike adults, typically are more hyper have impulse control problems, can act out, and have difficulty concentrating when they are sleep deprived. This can be due to a sleep disorder such as Sleep apnea (in kids typically caused by large tonsils and/or adnoids) or not getting enough sleep due to not enough sleep (about 10-11 hours for a child of 6) or due to poor sleep hygiene. Just a thought, I hope you find a solution, I had a similiar problem with my daughter she is now 8.
