Hellow All, Have you ever thought about becoming a
Firefighter? Well I'm a Firefighter and have been for long time. I have
worked in Lewisburg,wv, White sulfer,wv and Davy,wv. So I do have a
very good understanding of the Firefighter field. First I want to ask
you a few questions. Could you Run into a burning building knowing that
the odds of you getting out are low to save someone's life? If you was
home enjoying a day with your family could you drop everything to save
someone's life? To be a firefighter you must first know that on every
call you go on there is always a chance that it will be your last. It
take a one of a kind person to be a firefighter. Also I want to make a
very important point to you, When you become a firefighter you also
will deal with medical calls to. To be a good firefighter you must know
how to controll your self to help others. Keep this in mind "you can't
help someone if you are hurt your self." Next you must learn how to
switch between roles. On one call you may be chopping holes in a
roof, the next you my be attacking the fire inside the building with a
hose, and last you my be responding to a Cardic call and need to preform
CPR or use a Defib. Knowing how to switch between these roles will
greatly help you in your career. To be a firefighter and wear and use
the grear it take to protect you and save others you must be strong. I
am not saying you have to be a body builder but it does take alot of
mucle to carry and use these tools. Also you must be able to move quick
and use these tools fast to save lives. For example, you respond to a
car reck and the vitum is traped in the car, but there is a gas leak
and the door willn't open you have to work quickly to save him or
her.Lastley team work is a must for all fire departments! You must be
able to work with your fellow firefighters along with law enforcement
and the medic unit that will be responding to help you.
Thats it for now I'll be posting more to this in the near future.

Ditto. Great post.

Hey my hubby is a firefighter .Ive been there when he has rushed into a building filled with flames. Scary for a family member but as an auxilary member as I was i was also to respond to help them with drinks and food after the big ones . Many a times ive seen Scott run into a building .One day he ran into a building and ran out with a family pet no-one was home at the time he did CPR on the dog. The dog made it. Ive also been there when he hass gone in risking his life to save his fellow brothers. see picture This pic was taken right after the roof collasped. An Scott and 3 other men were in there.
Now he's a captain at a Airbase . now he just has to deal with inflights which can be even scarier. If thats possible.
Actually I have run into a burning building when I worked EMS in our Capitol City. My partner and I drove up on an a[partment building on fire .First ones on scene. we had to call it in to the dispatch. Well a woman came runnng up to our rig yelling her children were up on the second floor. Without hesitation my partner and I ran in with wet towels over our mouths. Dang it was HOT in there. We found 2 of the kids under a bed . My partner convinced them to come out the other was in under the kitchen table hiding. we got them all out but almost got fired in the process. OH WELL> our boss was sitting outside when we ran out . the FD was just pulling up and the police were there taping it off. We didnt have time to think too much besides the watered towels. but heck we saved all 3 kids. Dont know why the mother wasnt inside with the kids at 2 am but well .

Aslo I agree with what mymarthinez said we dont get the credit we deserve. I have seen alot of Firemen killed in action and even more people say that its his falt he or she should not have been in there. All I can say about the is I am glad not everyone feels that way.
Thank you and GOD Bless all you do this type of work..
Thank you soo much that means alot to me. I had to take my 75yld grandma ALS in last night and this morning.
She has a very bad UTI and urine retainment. They put her in the ICU for 48 hour op. also she was really dehydreaded. When i got to my mom's house and looked at her this morning seh fit all the signs for a strock. So that really trears you up when you have to work on your own family.
Thank you for saying that about me and when she gets out and back to normal i will be posting more blogs.
I love all of the staff in the ER as well and i added you so it should work now.

Aren't firefighters able to give TPA or other clot busting drugs too? I had one tell me a while back that they were able to do that now. I had to have TPA with my first heart attack. They may not even use it anymore, don't know. With my last heart attack I'm glad they didn't wait until I needed it because my doc didn't want me to have it that time. I was past the golden hour and he wanted to get me in the cath lab first.
My son's grandfather was a firefighter back in the late 60's and early 70's in Indianapolis, IN. I also dated one for awhile. You guys are the best. Take care, Faith
Goldfinch: It all depends on the state and department. Most of your firefighters now days are also EMT or Paramedic. If the firefighter is not a paramedic they shouldn't be pushing medications because they still have to get the ok from med command. See when ever a person needs medications they have to get a paramedic to give those. Most of the fire departments now have there own paramedics that will resond with the firedept but only for a medical call they are not firefighters there for they don't fight the fires they hang back just in case someone gets hurts. But with all paramedics in the United States they have to get the ok to give the meds you need. They get this ok from medical command. This is like the 911 that dispatches us but they are in charge of saying yes they can push the meds or no they can not. I know where I live it is hard anymore to get med command to aprove any pain medications. I don't think this is right but they have gotten that why because of the people out there that are hooked on them. I have had many calls where they hurt their selfs just to get the pain meds they are hooked on. Its sad to see someone hook on drugs, I couldn't tell you how many of my friends and family I have put into body bags because they OD-over dosed.
I thank you and my prayers go out to all of you all in cali. I love being a Firefighter and a Paramedic. They are not just jobs to me they are passions. I would do it even if I didn't get paid. I have been in the Firefighting field since I was about 12. My dad was in it, my mom was an E.M.T., and my step dad was a paramedic for over 20 years. So I come from a medical and firefighting involed family. I still can remeber 911. I was fighting a fire the morning that happened. I can remeber all of us stopping after the fire was out and you could see a cell phone in every firefighter's and medical personal's hand. Calling their families and friend. That was a very sad day I lost my brother, a good friend, and my nephew on that day. I am doing really good in collage. I have another month untill I get my PA then I will be going for another 4 years to get my MD.
I think you and i am sorry about your losses. All firefighters are family so this does not shock me that they steped in and helped out. When you join a firefighting team you becoem part of the family. We look out for each other and help out when we can. I have steped in and helped out lots of families that have lost the family members or friends.
