grocery shopping

Ok, today is my first step towards getting healthier.  It is grocery shopping day tomorrow, so today I need to make up a list of the basics I will need for me.  I haven't yet received my book, but I want to be somewhat prepared when it gets here.  I would love some suggestions of basics that I should add to my shopping list that will make it easier to ease into this first 17day phase!  Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hey there, I went shopping yesterday with the mind set of better, healthier decisions. I bought lots of veggies (fresh, frozen, and canned.) My main problem with not making the healthiest choices is time, so I tried to get healthy, but quick items. Chicken breast tenderlions. They are individually frozen and are a quick and healthy choice. The veggies can make for a quick salad or microwave steam. Yams or sweet potatoes are good carbs as well as brown rice or pasta. Wheat bread and torillas and lower fat cheeses and meats will make for a good and much healthier sandwich or wrap. So, I don't know what the book says either because mine in on order too, but I thought it would be best to start making better choices right away. I'll change anything I need to when I get the book.  :)  Good luck!

I too need to shop and I would think that fruits and vegies would be the first thing to check out. Remember they always say shop the outside of the store. Thats where the healthy foods are. Also low fat lean cuts of meat.

Here is a quick list from the book. I already recieved the book.

Fish, lean poultry (such as chicken, turkey breast, ground turkey), eggs and egg whites, non-startchy veggies (no potatoes or corn), low sugar fruit (apples, berries, oranges, peaches, pears, etc.), yogurt, cottage cheese, kefir, miso dissolved in low-fat broth, kimchi, suerkraut, tempeh, olive oil, and flaxseed oil.

This is the general listto get you started. There is a little bit more. He does go into more detail about the specific fruits and veggies and how to prepare them.

Good Luck!

yes, I always shop the outside of the store.  For the most part my whole family eats healthy.  Lots of fruits and veggies, whole oatmeal,  lean  meats.  I've done Weight Watchers for a while w/ some success, but you know that evil plateau sneaks up on you and you lose all motivation.  Anyone know if it is ok to use sugar substitutes, like stevia or splenda?

The nice thing for me is that I am a SAHM, so I can take the time to prepare meals and don't necessarily need things that are prepackaged or "quick".

Hi,

Has anybody ever thought of eating small quantities of food instead of what you are all doing.  I started out @ 217 pounds, and so far have lost 34 pounds.  I feel much better and I also eat vegetables and fruits for my stability.
