Post Concussion Syndrome

This past week I was rear ended when I was stopped at the end of an off ramp onto another road. The person behind me had to of accelerated a good bit because as I pulled forward to look for oncoming traffic she rammed into my back end. There was no damage to my car but unfortunately I didn't fare too well. The lady didn't even give me info and I was too shaken up at the time to even ask which was a horrible mistake that I will never make again.
Anyway, my neck and head hurt initially but I never thought that I had a concussion because I didn't really hit my head on anything except the headrest on my seat which is soft. But my neck was sore and hurt all day and my head throbbed despite taking 2 tylenol and 2 ibuprofen in the AM and 3 aleve in the evening. I was at school so I really didn't have access to medication except what my fellow nursing students had. Anyway, Wednesday I went to the chiropractor which didn't really help the headache but did fix my neck alignment. Thursday I still had a headache and was pretty much miserable, I had 6 hours of clinical lab at school then 8 hours at work which I spent part of that time being seen by one of our physicians. They gave me meds but by headache was still persistant and she said that I had whiplash. So Friday I spent all day at school then all day at work and still had a headache dispite muscle relaxers and pain meds. On Saturday I woke up with a massive headache so bad that I just wanted to lay there and cry. Finally that night I went back to the hospital and the physician diagnosed me with a cervical strain (sprain) not sure which one it was cause the nurse had just given me dilaudid. And something called post concussion syndrome.So apparently I did have a concussion even though my head didn't hit anything. Which everything that I have read online says that it can take a few weeks to a few months or even years to heal from. And there is no real treatment for it either. Has anyone else out there had this or been diagnosed and what do you do for it? I really don't want to be on medicine all the time for it because I'm a student in nursing school so I don't want it to jeopardize my grades or anything. Advice is much appreciated. I still can't believe that a simple rear ending could cause me this much discomfort and frustration.

My husband was rear ended a few years ago, he didn't think he had any serious injuries, but he had a headache, despite not remembering even hitting his head.  The headache for him lasted about 6 weeks, then was gone and never returned.  Obviously everyone is different, yours may not last long.  Did you call the police?  Then can put an alert out to body shops and police officers looking for a car matching the discription of the one who hit you with body damage.  At least then you may be able to recover your damages.  I hope you get to feeling better.

I have been in 7 car accidents 6 in which someone hit me (us) and one in which I rear ended some one and I can tell you that in my case shaken up was not the words I would use luckily I wasn't injured badly in any but as for as remembering them I can all but one that is, the one that we flipped 25 feet in the air and landed in a tree, it was the worst one of them all.

 You can get whiplash if the car that hit was going 5 mph so yes you can get a concussion though your head didn't hit anything because of the force that you were hit jarred your brain ( your headrest can do the job) but don't worry about not being able to think straight it happens my advice to you is to get into phsyical therapy as soon as possible for your neck and back it will help you so very much it helped my mom after our car wrecks.

 Don't worry about not being able to think straight afterwards it happens and as long as your not seriously injured ( though I know you feel like it ) everythong will work out in the end. The car can be replaced you can't so be thankful it wasn't worse.

I amost got into an accident a couple of days ago some woman pulled right out in front of me and she was at a dead stop it was just inches away from a bad accident. I slammed on my brakes so hard that the smoke from my tires was so thick you could barely see. I was so mad that I followed her to tell her off and when she got out of the car to appologize she didnt put her car in gear and slammed in the parked car in front of her. I know I was stupid for chasing her down,I knowroad rage isn't good, but the issue now is my 19 year old is in such pain from being tense thinking we were going to crash and my car isnt driving the same.  My tires I know are worn. I dont have anti-lock brakes. I know I should be grateful that it could of been worse, but I am so angry that there is nothing you can do because I didn't hit her. I have been sore too, my main concern is my daughter she has been doing the ice pack, motrin, but just an extra expense I didnt need.
