subject below the belt

Need help! I have had this issue on and off for quit some time now and its getting very fustrating! I have a very bad fishy vaginal odor and discharge before my period.  I have seen several doctors and have been put on antibiotics and creams to try to resolve my situation, but they just work for a few months and the then my symptoms come back.  What can I do? I know doctors have recommended not to douche, so I try soap specific for vaginal area.  This only works for maybe a couple hours than I notice the smell.  I have also heard comments at work about them looking for a fishy smell.  They even comment saying that it does not smell like someone is one their monthly period, but its something worse! I need help! Some doctors have told me its Bacterial Vaginosis and others have said its not!! What can I do next?? I feel weird talking this to people and sometimes I don't want to even go out, because I feel people are saying I smell.  Please help.  I just want to smell clean and get rid of this vaginal smell and clear like grey discharge.  I feel like if I am leaking or something and have to wear a panty liner all the time.  I do not have a yellowish discharge, just fishy smell and clear like discharge that feels like I am peeing or something!! Please help

I'm not a doctor, but from personal experience over the decades...here's my advice

No douching...throws off pH balance which can cause odor and irritation and discharge.

No special vaginal soaps or vaginal wipes...throws off pH balance!

No soap with fragrance...throws off pH.

Use mild, fragrance free soap if you want

Warm water and your hand is enough to clean the area, daily in the shower!  This is the safest way to keep your proper pH balance.

No baths

NO ORAL ANTIBIOTICS!  Can throw off your good bacteria and cause more problems!

Vaginal creams only if absolutely necessary...don't overdo those.

No scented pantyliners or pads.

No wearing pantyliners for the whole month, month after month!  You're not getting any airflow through there!

Cotton undies only!

No thongs!  Every once in a blue moon, maybe.

Finally, drink lots of water and cut out refined carbs and sugar, which can create an imbalance of more bad, vaginal-problem-causing bacteria.

Hope this helps...good luck!

One more thing...always keep the area dry!

Plus, some discharge is normal, so you'll never "get rid" of discharge...the discharge you are describing sounds normal, actually.  There is more clear/whitish/possibly greyish in color discharge during certain times of our ovulation/menstration cycles...don't fret unless it's yellow or green and accompanied by itching, burning, or pain.
