Not Much of a Cook

Hey you all,

I am on Cycle 2 - Day 6 and am starting to struggle.  I am not much of a cook, in fact if you ask people who know me, I am a terrible cook.  In fact, everyone agrees that they think I have a learning disability when it comes to cooking!

So, here is my dilemma....I can cook the basics - the slab of meat and the steamed vegetables, but when it comes to much else I am hopeless!  Can someone give me some ideas of SIMPLE things to try or a recipe book to get (although I own tons of those in my brief moments of thinking I can learn to cook)?  I have checked out the recipe lists for the SDD but if there are more than a couple of steps or ingredients it becomes pretty shaky whether or not it will turn out!  Last night I plopped down a bowl of raw carrots and put out some low-fat salad dressing and told my husband I was out of ideas and to dig in.  Any help is SIMPLE ideas will be appreciated!!!!!

I would do a lot of crock pot cooking...brown a nice sirloin steak in 2 Tbsp. olive oil, put in crock pot...add 1 large can of your favorite tomatoes, 2-3 onions sliced, salt and pepper, and about 1 tsp celery seed.  Cover and cook 4-5 hours on high and serve over brown rice.  Try a pork loin and some saurkraut or a round roast with onions, celery and carrots.  Put your veggies in the bottom and the roast on top.. salt and pepper to taste...cook on low 8-10 hours.  Add potatoes if allowed depending on cycle.  Experiment!...Try chicken breast and a jar of salsa and serve topped with ff shredded cheddar....saute some onions, mushrooms and green peppers to top chicken breast....hope this helps some:)  Hint:  always brown the meats in skillet first and then put in crock pot for better flavor.

I MYSELF FOLLOW THE WEIGHT WATCHERS,THEY HAVE A COOK BOOK YOU MAY LIKE BECAUSE THE RECIPES USE VERY FEW INGREDIENTS AND ARE HEALTHY! :)

I really think that most of the 17DD recipes listed on this site are quite easy to make, even for a beginner.  Overall, the healthiest foods to make are often the easiest, as they have few ingredients and few steps.  Do you like most vegetables, fish, chicken, and other things that are allowed in Cycle 2?

Luckily, I do like most of the food listed in both Cycle 1 and 2.  I'm just not a cook - although I keep making the attempts.  Today I looked at the Jr. college summer classes and was tempted to sign up for a cooking class.  The last time I did this the chef patted my head and told me "it'll be OK!"  I'm seriously impaired in the art of cooking!

Cook books with ingredients that I know what are,  and not a lot of things in them , One Low Fat Cookbook by Dawn Hall , has 7 Ingredients or less, in each recipe.  Wonderful place to start. Quick & easy Heart Healthy and Delicious. Also Weight Watcher does have some great Cook books out. I only buy cook books that I can Count calories, Fat, Cholesterol, Fiber, Protein, Sodium. If the lists are not  in the cook book I don't buy them any more.  You can always grow into making harder recipes later. Don't give up! Your family will love your meals in a very short time.
