I went to school to be a marine biologist--study sharks and shark behavior. During my last quarter at Humboldt State University near Eureka, CA, I was called by God to be a full-time minister. I had always figured I would help preach for small congregations who could not afford a full-time minister just as my Dad and Granddad had done. I finished my bachelor's, because I had come to far to quit. Then I worked for a year to save money to pay for preacher-training school in Flint,MI. After graduating at the top of my class I preached for a small congregation in the resort town of Harrison for 3 years. I then moved back to CA, did some circuit preaching and ended up settling down in a little town north of Bakersfield called Wasco--the rose capital of the nation. I met and married my wife of almost 18 years. We have 1 son who recently turned 13. We wanted several children but we discovered my wife had an enlarged heart 4 days after her c-section, and we almost lost her to congestive heart failure. Plus my 10 history of chronic, intractible migraines caused me to lose my job.
