Hi everyone,
Have any of you ever experimented with diet pills? As a child I was always overweight and reached up to 180 with my 5'0 frame. I lost 60lbs taking ephedra without knowing the dangers of it at the time. I continued to taking it after the birth of my first born and after a while began having some anxiety attacks. I was also able to feel my aorta beating very profoundly through my stomach. Now that i've stopped, i still feel my aorta beating and was wondering if this is normal. i'm curious to know the damage i may have caused to my body taking ephedra for 6 years.. anyone with similar a similar experience? It would be nice to maybe see a segment on the Doctors, talking about these dangers as I still see these pills on the shelves at the local drug store and how easily available they are, especially for young girls who maybe are going through body insecurities.

Glad to hear you stopped the pills. Ephedra is very dangerous. If you're still trying to lose weight do it naturally with (and you hear this all the time on the Doctors TV) more "fruits and veggies". You can also increase your fiber intake by using fiber tablets or putting granulated fiber in foods you cook. The dangers of diet pills really is a good idea for a show. Best of luck to you and maybe see a doctor to reassure yourself that there isn't any damage.
You should write in your story.I think this would be a good topic.
winddancer- I am no longer trying to lose weight. I'm actually quite petite right now. I've got some bounce in my hips (from having children), but nothing i'm not happy with lol
I believe every woman watches her weight in some form, but I am not longer taking pills. I've stopped for the past 2 years and had the worst withdrawal symptoms when I did. It really is sort of like a drug in a way. People think that because you can find it in a vitamin section or in a health food store, it's safe.. it really is not.
Ephedra IS a drug and I don't think should continue to be sold here in stores and be easily available for all to buy.
Having a bonafide case of Anorexia Nervosa, I ordered ephedra over the internet from S. Africa knowing full well the severe side effects these pills carry, but I still wanted to try them. Within about 3 weeks of taking them, I knew I could not continue... I dropped about 10 lbs off of my already skeletal frame, could NOT sleep for the life of me, and I felt like I was on an extremely uncomfortable "high" the entire time. My anxiety levels for these 3 weeks was through the roof. But none of that mattered.... all I cared about was that I was losing weight.... until the accompanying heart palpitations became so frightening, I thought I was going to die. So I stopped taking them, but it took awhile for my heart to return to a normal rhythm. Today I consider myself extremely lucky to have not done more damage or even die from my short-lived stupidity, considering I never consulted a doctor about any of this.
Thank God you've stopped taking them, but I hope you've gone to a doctor to assess what damage you may have done, especially to your heart. Please go get checked over.... 6 yrs is a LONG time to have taken this stuff, and I'm worried for you.
I definitely agree with you that a segment on this deadly stimulant should be addressed by The Doctors. Too many people have died on account of it, and more needs to be done to make this less accessible!
I took Dexatrim...too many. I also had taken benadry....too many--had a small STROKE. I never became paralyzed or anythign, , no other damage I don't think, but needed massage therapy for 2x/week for a year to feel back to normal. I say NEVER to take diet pills as they can ruin your life.
Melissa.
