Mitochondrial Disease

Posted by BridgeFitz to Other, Aug 30, 2010 8:47pm

Describe what mitochondrial disease is. Who does it affect? How common is it? What type of doctors treat it? What can happens to a person who has it? Well I have mitochondrial disease and I see a neurogeneticist @ Massetchusetts General Hospital by the name of Dr. Katherine Sims. I have mitochondrial recessive ataxia syndrome(MIRAS). Every 30 minutes a child is born w/ mitochondrial disease and millions already suffer from it. There all kinds of mitochondrial disease. It's hard to find a doctor to treat you because there are so few who know about it and treatments are always expensive because of the number of illnesses and different medical conditions it causes, and their serverity. I suffer from many medical conditions and they all take their toll but I'm still here and all I want is more awareness spread about mitochondrial disease.
