Severe Tailbone pain

THere is so little known of the disorder or disease called cocxcydenia (so little that there is no consistent way to even spell it.) I have suffered for over 3 years and have found an online group who also discuss the pain. In many there was no trauma to the tailbone or even a cause such as child birth. The event began 3 years ago where sitting for more than 30 minutes became uncomfortable and progressed to a point where I cannot sit without being in severe pain. The pain is noticed even with taking 3 different nerve medications as well as percocet and oxycontin.
I've been told there are no other procedures available to resolve the disorder, only pain management, counseling and learning to live a "New Normal" which consists of popping pills, and in the last year becoming disabaled.
You cannot comprehend the amount of time you spend sitting until you cannot do so, driving, watching movies, using the computer.
Unfortunately, this disorder begins to cause other issues, such as the inablility to stand, walk or bend over for any period of time causing life to change from being an athlete to lying in bed most of the day.
I know there are more people who suffer with me, but have not been disagnosed, medically treated or are simply accepting the fact that they will never be normal again.
The final treatment beyond the "Living a new normal" is removing the tailbone. I have heard horror stories and any successes have been from those who had an injury that has caused damage to the actual tailbone.
If you have never had an injury and there is no certainty the cause, what is the answer? Do we just continue to take meds and hope that the next 40 years don't get WORSE? I'd love to see a topic on this little known disorder and hopefully find someone who has researched and understands the disease that has cut my quality of life in half at the age of 41, and the many others who don't know what is happening to them. This not only impacts the person with this illness, but the relationship impact of a marriage and to their children who don't understand why mommy can't take them to the movie or a summer vacation becuase driving, riding and airplane rides make it all but impossible.

WOW! I'd never heard of so Googled http://www.coccyx.org/ and said you really need to do your research getting care of someone knowledgeable. That's always a good idea yet not as easy with this condition since no all doctors are familiar with, as you said. That does sound heartbreaking since you are unable to go places with your children that require sitting long periods. New advances all the time so keep your hopes up. I'll give you a thumbs up vote too. All the best to y'all. SEA

I am glad to know that someone has bought this up. I am going through this pain for nine years. My cocyx was removed after many injections did not help.I still can not sit on it for more than five minutes. it feels like sitting on broken pebbles.Always moving side to side which makes other parts of my body painful. After surgery I got nerve trap pain in my left leg which stays very uncomfortable all the time. My heels are very painfull and feels like got pouch of pain in them. Pain consultant says that its all to do with coccyx. i have been told to live with it as nothing else can be done. Its easy said how to cope with in theary but practically its very difficult day to day as people around you do not understand the facts of this problem. They thinks its all in my mind.Time to time I get very frustrated as its hard to sit or stand. Been with pain management for years and still go there for the sake of it as you see more people going throug difficult health which keeps you going for other day of life. i would like more awareness to people about this condition.looking forward for positive results
