Men with Breasts (Gynecomastia )

As a young child you probably wouldn't look twice at me with my shirt off. I was the typical kid who love to run, jump and play all summer long (with my shirt off). When puberty hit, the area around my nipples began to swell. It became so painful that my mom took me to see our doctor. He said that it was normal...all part of the development of the chest muscles and said that it would go away. Well, it didn't go away. I've exercised more, tried various chest strengthening exercises, and even tight bands around my chest and the big nipples and mass beneath won't go away. When I got out of high school I eventually looked into plastic surgery for the issue, but decided not to proceed due to the high cost.
Are there alternatives to surgery for mild to moderate gynecomastia?
