The Facebook 17 day diet scare or Truth

Okay here goes nothing just got off Facebook and the Blog there for the 17 day diet, A lot of people are saying after day 8 no weight loss. In the 2nd part of it no weight loss. Some have said that now wish they had not brought the book which by the way I just got and today is my 1st day on the diet. This has kinda scared me. HELPI hate to think this is just another money getter!

I don't understand why no weight lost! If they haven't, I suggest reading the book and for the suggested day by day plan for Cycle 1.  Not only are the recipes great, but you learn so much about your body.

If these people have stuck to the diet for 7-14 days and haven't lost, they must be cheating or have a major medical condtion.  I feel lighter, my clothes are looser, and the food is delicious.

I have lost 10.2 pounds in 7 days.  I haven't even started exercising the 17 min. a day yet.  I am also still trying to get all 3 cups of tea and 8 glasses of water in.

Trust me, the ones that haven't lost are the minority.  You'll love the results!  GOOD LUCK!

Patti Rae,  I would not get discouraged.  I have not lost anymore since day eight, but continue the diet religiously.  There are a lot of reasons for this.  First, I understand the physiology in general, but not specifically enough to know where the weight loss comes from as the diet progresses.  Second, this diet is not supposed to have plateau's, but individual bodies differ.  Maybe some of us have bodies that react to the diet this way.  Third, I do not know the sample size used to determine there should not be plateaus.  Perhaps it was too small to make that statement.  Now that the sample size is larger the doctor will see that some people do plateau.  Finally, I know I feel better eating this way and that's enough for now.  When I get through the four cycles, I will see where I am and maybe make a better informed decision at that time.  Hang in there.  Best of Luck to you!  Frank

Don't believe what you hear.  If you listen to those here on this site, they are still losing weight.  Put your fear aside.  I think this is a good thing.   Also Dr. Phil and Doctors have a stake in this and they don't do things likely.

Don't believe the hype! I have lost 6 lbs so far and am feeling better and making better decisions about my food!!!  If they are not losing they are cheating honestly...

I bought the book and I don't regret it at all.  There's alot of information in it, and I keep referring to the suggested menus and recipes.  We're on day 6 and it's going great.  I've lost about 5 lbs and my husband 7.  Good luck!  Also, this blog helps motivate me with new ideas too.

Hi!  I've been on The 17 Day Diet for a little over a month now, and have lost 15 1/2 pounds.  I kind of messed up at Christmas, but other than that, have been averaging a weight loss of between 4 and 5 1/2 pounds per week.  I wouldn't listen to the nay-sayers - I don't know how anyone could not lose weight on this plan!  It may just be people who either haven't really done the diet, or didn't follow it completely.  Once you get through your first full week of this plan and weigh yourself, I'm sure you'll find that works great!  Good luck!

Hey Patti,  I don't know about the reviews elsewhere, but from reading the blogs and the message boards, there are people who are currently in Cycles 2 & 3 who are losing weight.  I would expect more weight to come off during the initial phase, especially if there's a lot of weight involved.  But by increasing the exercise in each cycle body changes whether inches or lbs are going to happen.  One thing I consider is that I'm not doing this for a few weeks and then slipping back to what I've been doing.  I'm using this as a blueprint for a lifestyle change.

Thanks for all the feed back. I am doing it. second day and I am following the menu but am a little confused on when to have the snacks. Do we have them between breakfast and lunch and then between lunch and dinner? or do we have them between lunch and dinner and dinner and bedtime?

I don't know what the books says, but I have my snacks whenever Ifeel like it, though fruit should not be eaten after 2pm.  After the first few days, I often only have 1 snack because I'm not hungry.

Half those people probably "think" they know what the diet is all about but may not have even seen the book.  Don't give others the power to sabotage your efforts. Keep going.

Mine slowed down slightly too, but is back on track.  From what I understand, if you don't drink enough water that will slow things down.  And one of the things I've struggled with is eating ENOUGH food.  If you don't eat enough that will also affect your progress.

I'm on Day 16 and have lost 12 pounds so far.

Just relax and do your best.  It will come off.

Hello, everyone loses weight differently . I just finished day 10 and I weighed myself today and I have lost a total of 11.2 lbs.  I would like more but it takes time. I know when I finished the complete diet I would have lost more. Do not get scare. Join the threads and you will get better support than facebook.  Good luck, you will be okay.

Hey, 7lbs in 7 days, and I'm hypothyroidic. Loving it! Had to put my husband on Cycle 4, he began at 229 and by day 5, he was 215 and he is 6' 2. Don't want a skinny man.  His weight for his height and frame s/be 223.

Whatever we do in life, there will be nay sayers. If those that say no weight lost after 8 days, what about the 8 days that they did lose weight? What other diet (lifestyle change in eating habits) do you or those nay sayers know of that work so fast? I'd rather see the glass half full rather than half empty. Just do you thing, follow the precepts of the plan, and you will have a life changing experience.

Everyone is different. If you are looking for a reason to quit, then you've found it. But, if there is no weight loss, they are either beginning to "cheat" alittle or aren't following the rules. "Do I really need to drink 8 glasses of water? Can't I have just a dab of dessert? It's not like I'm eating the whole thing." The bottom line is even if they aren't losing a single additional pound, they're eating foods that are good for their health. That should be reason enough for celebration. Sounds like too much time sitting and talking on Facebook and not enough exercising:)

I have been on the 17 Day Diet 13 days and followed it religiously. I lost 6 lbs by day 9, day 10 went up 1.5 lbs and since then stayed the same. I am very discouraged today day 13. The quick weight loss is what is supposed to keep you encouraged and when I get up four days in a row and nothing lost it's really hard to keep going. I have not had one thing outsied of the recommened foods and been drinking all the water and exercising every single day. I am only tring to lose 20 bs total. I am disappointed to say the least. Seeing the weight loss each day is what makes me eager to stay on and keep going and this not happening discourages me. I have a very high BMI and always have, even at 125 lbs..my body seems to just want to stay fat!

I am one of the ones not really losing weight :(  I am on day 11, and have read the book thoroughly and followed the rules to a T. I don't normally diet, so I figured I should follow it perfectly, otherwise I'd never know if it worked or not!. Hot lemon water first thing, green tea, no fruit after 2:00, absolutely NO foods not allowed (every time we think of something we research the book first!), two probiotics - and the fat-free sugar free flavourless ones at that. I lost 1.5 lbs the first three days and have been going up and down around that same mark every day.

I would appreciate any feedback or ideas on why I'm not losing weight at week 11 - my thoughts so far are:

1. It hasn't kicked in yet

2. My body has gone into starvation mode (although I don't know why - I am following the liberal lean meat and endless vegetables)

3. I didn't eat that badly to begin with, always have drank lots of water, so it's not that drastic of a change

4. I have been constipated - fix this and maybe it will all come out and 4lbs gone?!

Any thoughts - or anyone out there where the weight loss kicked in after day 11??

My husband, however, has lost 9 lbs. We've been following the exact same regimen.

On the plus side, we are making great meals though - tonight was grilled salmon with grilled eggplant, onions and asparagus basted with balsamic vinegar - yum!

Despite being confused so far, I am going to stick with it right to Day 17 though - just in case it kicks in!!! I will keep you posted....

I am one of the ones as well not losing weight on the 17 day diet!!!  Last week was week 2 on the diet, the first week I lost 8 lbs, but last week i lost 0!!!!  I followed the diet properly, I did not cheat at all.  I also went to the gym every single day and did cardio. I was in disbelief when I stepped on the scale this morning and it was 0!!!  How can that be???? I don't know what I can be doing wrong, as I am putting in such an effort to follow the book.

I was thinking maybe my body was in starvation mode... as most days I only have 1 snack as I'm not hungry.  I calculated my calorie intake, and many days it was below 1000 cals.  That seems very low.

They don't really give a serving size of the protein portions.  I've been averaging 1 chicken breast, or 2 fish fillets... is this too low??  Because I'm working out, should I be eating more??  I have been calculating my daily calorie burn, and it's averaging about -1500 cal a day.  So why am i not losing???

I just don't know what to do.

Today is Day 22 for me. I have lost a total of 7 lbs. and have been as high as 8.  Four of those pounds were in the first week. This is the first diet I have ever thoroughly followed, basically because I felt it was the right way to eat and would not be harmful to me in any way, however, the promised fast weight loss in the beginning just didn't happen, and continues to not happen.  Four 3 days prior to my 1 lb. GAIN this morning, I held steady at the same weight, so my weight loss seems to have just completely stopped, even though I've just switched it up by going on to Cycle 2.  I intended to lose 50 lbs. total, and figured by now I would be well on my way, but it just isn't happening.  My clothes are not getting any looser, either, so I'm not sure what's going on.  Very frustrating.

Add one more to the list... Over 200 lbs lost 4-5 lbs in first 7 days nothing since on day 16 trying day 1 of second cycle to see if it jump starts my losing again. Perhaps some of our bodies adjust quicker??? We'll see.
plynsn316

I'm starting Day 6 of the diet (phase I).  I have only lost 3.7 pounds since starting.  I keep reading of all these other participants who lose all this weight (5+ pounds) in the first 5 days.  I can't seem to budge past 3.7 (which is where I have been since Day 4).  I am not cheating - I'm following all the guidelines, and I'm drinking at least 2L of water.  Has my weight already plateaued?

I have over 60 pounds to lose, so it's not like I'm near my "goal weight".

I am not finding this plan to be the easiest thing to follow and I am missing the "naughty foods" badly - I think I'm still "detoxing" from sugar.  Could use a little encouragement!
