About Me

I am 65, widowed, and the grandmother of 11 children (5 Dutch, 2-14 and 6 American, 2-14) theMy late husband was Dutch and we have a blended family. My Dutch son-in-law and daughter are MD's--he is an oncologist/gynecologist in Nijmegen, the Nerhlands. It remains fascinating to watch these US and Dutch children grow--the differences in permisisons (the Dutch riding bikes while the US kids still had training wheels) and the diff. in the sex education programs. The Netherlands has the lowest abortion and unwanted babies in the western world. The girls started with "dealing with strangers and appropriate behavior-touch/no touch" in preschool. My 13-year-old granddaughter shared her thoughts on premarital sex while we were walking to the cemetery to visit my husband's grave--very open and matter of fact. My US daughter would "die" if I broached such a subject with her daughter, who is two months younger. I have lived in 6 countries, developing and developed world and have worked all my life with the Girl Scouts (internationally and nationally) to promote the interests of girls and women.
