And so it begins.....

I have been on every diet known to man. I've lost 20 gained 30 so many times. I'm now 56, retired and there's no reason for me to not stick to a new way of eating. In the past 2 year I have put on 35 pounds and feel so insecure about myself. I suffer from seasonal depression and this year has been extrememly hard on me. Yes, it does get cold in New Orleans.

I'm hoping with everyone's support this will be an eye opening adventure for me. There are reasons why I over eat..........why? I don't know. I'm on day 3 and I have to say I'm feeling good about myself. I've already lost 5.4 lbs. Today is the first day I've felt like I've had energy in weeks. Now I need to motivate myself to get on the treadmill.

Your story sounds so much like my own.  I don't know why I overeat, but once I start I can't stop.  This diet has been going very well for me so far.  I'm on Day 8 of Cycle 1 and have lost 8 lbs.  I am also exercising nearly every day.  I have more energy and I think my overall outlook is better (like you, I suffer from depression, but mine is year-round).   If you hit a snag or have a few days when the scale doesn't seem to be moving, don't get discouraged, mine did that for nearly five days.  And remember, you're not only losing weight, but you are improving your overall health -- cholesterol, blood pressure, coronary artery disease, etc. are all improving as you stick to this.   And you're not doing it alone!!  I do encourage you to use the treadmill as often as possible, your energy level will dramatically increase.  Good luck!

Wow I am impressed you've acheived a 5.4 lb loss already! I, too am on day 3, and had to question whether or not the scale showed even the slightest loss this morning.

I am an over-eater as well - any food. It's not the junk so much, it's actual food that I love! Im not a big sweets person, but love to cook, and love to eat.
I have also been under tremendous stress the past couple of years, which has only made me depressed & contributed to weight gain. I now need to lose a good 30-40 lbs.

How much time is reasonable to expect before I'll see this kind of loss on the 17 day diet??

Hi nolamimi, How did the walk go the other day?  I hope your weather is still good so that you can walk outdoors.  It's so much more enjoyable than on the treadmill.  The weather here has been beautiful the last two days and I've been able to be outside a lot more ... even tho there's still snow on the ground.  Hope things are going well on your diet and that the pounds are just melting off!  Keep up the good work...

trishgarlitz, Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you about my walk. It's been great walking weather and I have been taking advantage of it. My husband even noticed that I've gotten the twinkle back in my eye. It feels so good to have the sun out and the warmth on my face. I guess I'm just not cut out for cold weather. I haven't been to this website in a week. I need to get back in the groove. How are things going for you? I'm happy you're able to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. I'll be on day 17 at the end of this week. I'm looking forward to adding shellfish to my list of foods. Yipeeeee, my favorite.
