Oh ya. I saw this one when it came out originally. The part of this that really gets me is "They considered dialing 911 but knew an ambulance would take her to a hospital where Ed once had a bad experience. So instead, he drove her home." Are you kidding me? The real damage was done because they did not go to the hospital when they should have. Let's be honest. Also, of any of the cases that had been investigating whether or not a chiropractic adjustment actually caused a stroke, all of the cases had been found to have a pre-existing condition that would "break the camel's back". Going along with that, I am sure many people stopped reading before they got to "...almost any sudden movement of the neck can tear an artery — leaning your head back to drink a soda, for instance, doing yoga, stargazing or craning to check your blind spot as you back out of the driveway. Medical journals have reported numerous cases of women who have been seriously injured having their hair washed at a salon. According to a study from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, one-fourth of arterial dissections are caused by abnormalities that already exist in the connective tissue that make certain people particularly vulnerable to the injury. “It’s not a simple black-and-white issue that someone who visits the chiropractor and then suffers a stroke can say clearly it’s the chiropractor’s fault,” says Wouter I. Schievink, M.D., director of the vascular neurosurgery program at Cedars-Sinai. “It’s not always clear what came first, the dissection or the manipulation.”

I too have come across the chirowatch.com website. I would be very hesitant to follow anything that is said by a group of people who are leaning SO FAR in one direction or the next, regardless of what the topic may be. It is truly disappointing to read the opinions of some people who truly have no idea of what it is they are talking about. One bit of advice I would give to anyone who is on the fence of whether or not to go, I would suggest they be very pragmatic about it. For example, the as per research done by the AMA, the current medical profession is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US due to misdiagnosis, drug allergies, etc. That is a concern for me and my family. We spend the most on healthcare in the US and we rank 37th in the world for overall health. Seems to be a bit of a disconnect. Toyota has been linked to 52 deaths due to faulty acceleration of their cars and had a congressional hearing about it. Gardasil has been linked to 49 deaths and not even a slap on the wrist. Safety and effectiveness are the things that families should be looking into. Check out the malpractice insurance rates for medical doctors versus chiropractors. Why? Because it is a gauge into the safetiness of the profession. Chiropractors average $1500 PER YEAR in insurance. To me that says there aren't too many problems when it comes to chiropractic care. I would be interested in your comments.
