Link between CBT and treatment of chronic pain

I know that a lot of people don't like to hear that they should seek counseling or CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) when they are suffering from chronic pain, but, studies show that Chronic Pain can cause symptoms of mental illness, such as depression.

The reason this happens, is because people suffering from pain are usually not able to do the things they used to love doing.  It makes chronic pain sufferers want to give up on life! I would never tell anyone that the pain they are experiencing is "all in their head" because (unless you are a hypocondriac) it's not!

Sometimes counseling or CBT can help give a person tools to help them better cope with their pain, and if you are like me- I will try anything that might have the slightest possibility of helping reduce the amount of pain I am in!

Medications help do help some, I take methadone, but they just cover up the symptoms- and they never get rid of all the pain, which is why I would like to see a counselor who specializes in chronic pain, so that i can gain some tools to help me cope with pain on a daily basis. Counseling is not a bad thing!!!! It is there to help those who need a little extra help, like me, and it doesn't make you a weak person, which is what some people thing- it's just a little helping hand.
