What about adding a Neurologist, Orthopedic Surgeon and Oncologist?

Good Morning - I'm not sure if the Doctors read these blogs or not - Many of us (especially up in the NorthEastern states have the unfortunate task of living with an incurable disease such as Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Fibro, etc...(All Neurological).

Wouldn't it be great if they added a Neurologist to the panel or at least had one visit once a week or so? I believe that they would reach many more viewers and could put many of us at ease or help shed some light on what is happening to our bodies.

I for one, would love to know (in layman's terms) exactly what my MRI is saying, what the highs and lows of the blood work mean, when should we panic or seek a second opinion, etc...

I happen to live in a very small town and was going to a Neurologist in my area, whom everyone recommended - he had me on 13 different pills for my MS, which then led me to have mini-seizures.  After doctoring with him for 3 years, I finally went to the Mellon Center where they never heard of some of the meds that I was on and come to find out - It was for epilepsy and if you don't have epilepsy...well - you can have seizures due to the medication, etc...He also NEVER told me when my cholesterol was over 200+ - said all my bloodwork turned out fine - until I got copies for myself.  The took me off of everything and I had to undergo a series of horrific tests, including a spinal tap to see if I truly did have MS - which after lots of pain, agony and waiting - they did confirm - but I've gone from 13 pills down to 5 plus injections everyday.  What a difference!!!!

Another person from my area had been going to the same Neuro for 20 years being treated for MS - finally went to the Mellon Center - and put her through the gamit too - and viola...she DOESN'T have MS - but is basicaly ruined for life now because of what they did to her and all the meds they had her on but the statute of limitations ran out and she can't sue.

10 miles from where I live is the biggest "cluster" of Multiple Sclerosis, nationwide.  They have been studying that area for years now to try figure out what causes or triggers MS.  15 miles to the West of where I live is one of the biggest "clusters" of childhood cancer and leukemia.

Sometimes I think that we get all the doctors who barely made it through med school to our area.   Yes...I've had many bad experiences with doctors.  Had I of listened to my OB back when I was first married - I would not have my children - he thought I was full of infection - where I went for a second opinion up to Cleveland and here I was born with 1/2 a uterus and 1 tube.  After 3 miscarriages - I'm blessed with 2 beautiful children.

Due to my MS, I've fallen a few times and went to the Ortho, he took an MRI, saw nothing and I did PT 3 times weekly for 6 months - got worse.  Went for another opinion and when he looked at the MRI - saw I had 2 tears - Had Arthroscopic knee surgery and he had to scrape, file, grind, etc... another 6 months of PT.  Still not a whole lot better, and fell because my knee kept giving out.  1 1/2 yrs later, went to Cleveland, had to go back in and do more Arthroscopic surgery 2 weeks ago, back to PT - but not as painful as before, didn't need crutches except for 2 days - so much better.

My dad fell down his basement stairs onto cement floor - went to ER - sat for 3 hrs. they took xrays and sent him home saying he just sprained both ankles.  I knew darn well that when they are swollen and not black and blue that something is more than likely fractured.  He was in such pain and discomfort and was couch-bound, that I  took him for a second opinion a few days later - here he broke BOTH ankles - DUH!!!  We are surrounded by misfits.  How in the world can you miss that on an xray????  Hello???

Aren't you supposed to have faith in your doctors and hospitals?  Not around here!  I wouldn't take my dogs to 3/4 of the doctors around my area.

I'm sorry for rambling on - it would just be nice to have different "Specialists" either join the panel or visit 1 day a week for all call ins or emails.  Just a thought...

This would be a great Produce the Show topic.

Melissa.

Hi, I can vouch that you don't have all the bad drs.

I believe I cast a vote for this earlier today, I think

it's a great idea. Sludge

Hi, the incidence of increased illnesses in the Northern Hemisphere is now known to be largely due to Vitamin D deficiency. Go to www.vitamindcouncil.org, click on the Research button and look up studies done on all of the diseases. See www.sunarc.org for geographic prevalence of disease and the connection to vit D deficiency. Scientists have long made the connection between increased incidence specifically of cancers, MS, and other diseases based on geographic location, i.e., those who live above 37 degrees latitude or above the latitude of Atlanta, GA. Yet most doctors are ill informed on this topic. One of the premier vitamin D scientists does his research in your neck of the woods, at Boston Univ Med Center, Dr. Michael F. Holick. Do a Google search and a Youtube search to see the work that he has done and is still doing. He and all of the top vitamin D scientists have gathered as a consortium on www.grassrootshealth.net. I was bedridden for almost a year after 3 yrs of increasing illness until one of 22 doctors finally ran a vitamin D test and found that I was deficient. It took 3 more to figure out how to treat the deficiency that led to my ever-progressing recovery. Doctors are ill informed when it comes to vitamin D. This is a huge reason why you aren’t getting the care you really need in the Northeast. Because of your MS, if you get your vitamin D blood level checked, you may find that your vit D blood level is unusually high. If this is the case, ask your doctor about sarcoidosis and keep trying till you get answers. Please see my profile for more information on vitamin D. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please go to the Produce The Doctors site and put this idea on there if you haven't already.  You can also vote for similar topics like under Women's Health there is a topic :Guest Panel of Oncologist, you may find that under "most popular" in Women's health and I think it's under Disease/Illness as well.  Having a guest panel of different specialist is a wonderful idea.
