Hi, I wanted to tell a little about this medication. It is a combo of Wellbutrin and Naltrexone, both of which I take. It's a combo drug that helps with the craving of many things. More specifically, the Naltrexone inhibits cravings of food, SMOKING, alcohol, things like that. Currently Naltrexone alone is used mainly for alcoholics to help curb cravings. Wellbutrin is for depression and similar disorders. I take both Naltrexone and Wellbutrin for an unusually insatiable craving for food, kind of like an alcoholic craves alcohol. And these meds WORK. This new Contrave (combo of both) is a winner in my book. These meds work wonderfully and you can see effects at first right away, then it will take about a month for the med to mix with your nervous system and work even better. I will say though, behavior modification should IMO accomany taking this drug because at first when getting used to the med and if later on you decide to stop it, there is a tendency to go back to old habits, at least with me. Almost as if I had never taken it. So in general this is a good drug to take IMO. I haven't take the combo pill Contrave, but am on the meds that make it up and they work.
The one thing is this though, that if you are on a medication with naltrexone in it, you cant use morphine, codeine, vicodin, percocet, etc., because the naltrexone attaches to the opium receptors first; so if you were to take morphine it would enter your body and just sit there, with nothing to bind to, and eventually builds up in your bloodstream.
Melissa.
