There are studies that show people who are dying, that stop eating, who are not hungry, etc, because they plain and simple don't eat, can't eat, what have you. Usually it results in putting in a feeding tube, which can be cruel if not for the short term...it can prolong death if put in for the end of a person's life. The body often rejects food by vomiting, the food gets inhaled into the lungs causing aspiration pneumonia, and can cause more pain to the dying patient. The dying body is shutting down and does not require food.....How do people feel about this subject? Should a dying person have tube feeding or not?
Melissa.

My friend cousin died last year end of december. I don't know her but she probably had a feeding tube because i hear that she's not eating very well. my answer is no.
I don't think so either. Maybe if it is temporary for whatever reason, but in general it will just prolong things, causing pain at the same time.

Studies really support that when someone is dying the body will reject food. I'm talking about people that have no hope for survival, with a bad prognosis of course.

Hi Melissa,
I would think that something like this would
be up to the patients wishes. Everyone should
make end of life arrangements no matter how
young or old they are, it takes a lot of stress
off the family if this is done. My parents wishes
were known and written and we made sure they
were carried out. Hope this helps :)
