High Fructose Corn Syrup

http://www.care2.com/greenliving/high-fructose-corn-syrup-that-sweet-sweet-bully.html?&page=2

High-fructose corn syrup is a sweetener produced by processing cornstarch to yield glucose, and then processing the glucose to produce a high percentage of fructose. It is primarily used as a preservative and sweetener in a multitude of food products. You should avoid it because of the following:

1. High-fructose corn syrup has been linked directly to obesity, diabetes and metabolic dysfunction.
2. High-fructose corn syrup elevates triglycerides levels, which can lead to heart disease.
3. High-fructose corn syrup is simply empty calories with no nutritional value whatsoever.

HFCS is a group of corn syrups that has undergone enzymatic processing to convert its glucose into fructose and has then been mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to produce a desired sweetness. In the United States, HFCS is typically used as a sugar substitute and is in processed foods and beverages, including soft drinks, yogurt, industrial bread, cookies, salad dressing, and tomato soup.

Consuming high-fructose corn syrup in moderation is becoming near impossible, seeing as nearly everything from sliced bread to salad dressing now contains the ingredient.

Hi Melissa,

How've you been? It's been a while since I've logged on. I see that you are writing informative nutrition posts. Great!

Hi Martha!  I've been good, trying to keep busy with different things.  Right now I am working on a counted crosstitch project.  Walking is out because of falling risks (black ice, sidewalks aren't plowed, etc) -- I need to be careful of my hip.  But I am healthy otherwise and staying warm in the cold weather.  How've you been?  It has been a long time since you've logged on!  I like writing the informational posts -- don't get many responses but it gets people thinking (I hope) about things.  Thanks for writing and please keep in touch!

I just read that raw honey does NOT contain high fructose corn syrup, unllike the processed kind.
