Addicted to Food

Does anyone think about food 24/7 for the most part, regardless of your weight (I'm slightly overweight, but it takes it all out of me to stay away from food when I don't need to eat)?  How do you distract yourself, if you can.  Even doing things I can't get food out of my mind, whether I am hungry or not.  Do people live to eat or eat to live?  I usually eat to live, but easily it could be turned around because I think of food so much.  What do people think?

I drink a lot of water.... and eat lettuce or carrots or tomatoes..... try to eat things which are "free" and don't have sugars or calories.... when I'm full with water, the cravings are still there but most often not so dominant.  Have an apple or blueberries in between meals (if you can without messing up any blood glucose issues) so that you aren't that hungry at meal time....

Oh and NEVER go to the grocery store on an empty stomach. ;-)

It's hard though when food is always  on your mind, even if you are full with water or something.  The craving is still there and stronger than ever until the food hits your mouth.

Melissa,

I have to agree with Spry on this one.

Make sure you have a few empty calorie

things on hand for these situations. Hope

ya like lettuce an celery, these are empty

calorie foods and I'm sure there is more.

Take care of you, Sludge

I myself eat to live, but it's hard to answer that for all.I usually only eat dinner cause at work I don't have time and when I get home I am to tired so I wait til I fix dinner.I know that is not good for me.

I agree with the others if you have to eat something try to munch on things without calories.

Addiction is addiction is addiction is what I have heard.

Whether its to food, pot, drinking and its a thinking disease.

You say we need food to survive right?

Well for me its that payoff we I get to sooth myself to calm myself etc.

Not to survive to eat but to eat to live.

Let me give an example ok.....Do you get a charge out of putting something in your mouth?  Are you upset about something and then when you eat something does it comfort you?

sludge

Melissa,

I forgot to say that I eat to live.

A suggestion that may help is only

have the food around that you know

is good for you till you get your mind

reset, mind over matter, you can still

have the foods that you love but in

moderation. Did you see the show on

fat? that was enough to deter me.

Yes--I did see the show on fat and that did help actually---not 100% but it made me think.  I eat pretty healthy overall, rarely junk food, but what I've started doing is having less food around...the less around the less I can eat.  I may think about food but I am not the type for going out and getting what I want just because I want it then.  I stocked up on lettuce :-) yesterday.

Make sure you double wash that lettuce

Melissa, I saw where it was in the top ten

for risky foods with spinach, eggs, tuna,

oysters, potatoes, cheese, ice cream ,lol

wonder how we can clean ice cream? tomatoes,

sprouts and berries. E coli, salamonella, noro virus

so every body wash, wash ,wash your veggies.

Sludge, I JUST saw the exact same thing on the news lol!

Oh and also remember that although lettuce is great to munch on, it does tend to be a bit bland, giving you the thought to throw some salad dressing on........ that will defeat the purpose :-)

You have a good point...thanks.  Same with celery and peanutbutter.

I have been tryna loose like 10 or 15 pounds for a long time, but its so hard. I see food and I eat and eat, I dont eat junk food, what gets me is fast foods. I hate to cook so we eat out alot, I know its not good but thats what we do. Ive tried not eatin after 7pm and eatin only fruits and yogurts and healthy dinners, but it feels like it doesnt fill me up. Before I met my husband I was always in real bad relationships mentally and phyically, and I would never eat cause I was so stressed out and my hair would fall out, I weighed 86 pounds and Im height is 4'7 so I was very very skinny and with my bone diease my bones didnt have any fat to protect my bones from breakin. So I had to have surgery on both my legs. I met my husband in 03, and ever since we been together I gainsome weight, and all I want to do is loose it in my stomache I want my stomache to be flat and skinny and I just want to feel good about my self again. I dont even take my clothes off infront of my husband because Im so ashamed of how my body looks, I get so depressed sometimes and I will just sit and cry. He tells me not to think that way because he thinks im fine the way I am, but I cant seem to believe him. I hope that maybe we can work on this diet thing together cause all we want is to be beautiful. If u have a Myspace please fill free to add me. (myspace.com/babygurl0511 ).

LilMami,

Thank you...I don't have Myspace account or  I would add you.  I rarely eat junk food, love fast food, but I am not able to drive so those foods aren't easily accessible to me.  My downfall is all kinds of food....some days it is cereal, some days it's chef Boyardee, some days it is cheese and crackers.  I am able to control it enough though that I think I am slowly losing something (weight).  I hate to cook too.  I like the microwave.  I can  relate to what you are saying.  Remember the show on fat (Doctor's Show) -- I think sludge said this too--that pretty much did it for me to get me  going.
