Gastritis

I was just diagnosed with gastritis (i knew something was wrong, just not what exactly) and that is with being on medications already.  Right now my stomach kills with a cramp/burn-like feeling.  I do not have ulcers (those healed).  Does anyoe have any suggestions from personal experience what to do when even a bland diet is not working -- I've had a bland diet for over 2 weeks now.  Or what do you do for flare-ups?  I also have GERD but it doesn't seem to come at the same time as a flare-up from the gastritis.  Thanks.

My Dr put me on Aciphex but it's double the normal dosage as long as I take it I'm good. It's about the only anti reflux med I can take that helps the pain.

Oh have you had your Gallbladder checked and not just an ultra sound but there's a nuclear test to see if your gallbladder is working. An ultra sound only detects stones. My gallbadder wasn't working and I had to find a good gastro man to do the other test I was in horrible pain and lost tons of weight because I couldn't tolerate any food.

I rarely take painkillers anymore.  Have been off them for months now.  I'm on Rx Protonix for the  GERD.

Yes, I have had the nuclear test for my gallbladder.  Everything turned out normal, no stones, nothing.  Also had an entire biliary series done and that was normal.

No lactose intolerance, I drink milk and have dairy all the time with no problem.

Hi Missy,

I would tell your gastro guy about it.  The Protonix may not be strong enough for the GERD.  It does help mine, but once in a while it comes through anyhow.  Maybe once a month.  I know you take it twice a day, maybe you ned it 3 times a day.  Check with the gastro Dr.  The burning in your stomach may not be related to the GERD at all.  It really could be from the medications eating at your stomach lining.  By all mean take your meds with food to try to prevent the burning acid hitting your stomach lining.  There are medications that you can take other than Protonix to stop stomach acid.  Please ask your doctor about them.

Love, Sunnie

No, insurance only covers it once a day--I only take it once.  I might have put that on my med sheet as twice a day just in case I get admitted to the hospital, where I would get the opportunity to take more of it.  But otherwise it's once a day.  I think he knows I need more but insurance won't pay for it.  I see the doctor Dec 3.  If it isn't better by then he might do another scope of it.

Love, Missy

Never heard of Librax....and it isn't on the formualry for being covered by insurance or they would have prescribed it to me by now.  Protonix is the last they've tried on me.  It does work but I just need the insurance companies to cover it for twice a day.  My stomach doesn't feel like a small ball; when it hurts there is just pain, not specified to a small area in my stomach area.

No, just the Prescription meds because the otc meds can get expensive.

have you been tested for celiac disease?

No, haven't been checked for celiac disease.  I see gastro on 12/3/09 but from what I know about it I don't think I have it.  What were your thoughts on it?  What led you to celiac disease?
