I'm doing great! Progressing rapidly, building up muscle
already, even before June 5 when PT starts, and happy with the
progress. I go walking daily now, still with crutches if I am by
myself, and even without them if i am with someone (in case I trip and
fall which could still pop the hip out of the socket--have until June 14
until I am in the clear). Yesterday I was able to go out 3 times and
walk, the most being 35 minutes at a time. Today I've been out twice for 40 miutes each time. I get tired but it's the stamina that does it to me. My pain level is like a 1
even when I get home from walking and other things, which is a miracle.
I weaned off Vicodin...had my day of not feeling well, but it wasn't as
bad this time. Hopefully I wont need it anymore. Maybe if PT works me
hard I will start again, but I'm not pushing anything until after June
14. The muscles sometimes are sore, but the hip pain is gone. This was
THE best surgery i could have had done. The first 2 failed but they
were trying to save the bone, becasue of my age. I may need another
replacement in the future but not for a very long time.
My everyday life is still mainly resting and now walking some, sleeping, computer,
watching movies...sounds "fun" but it gets old after 1 1/2 years. I had
a week off from doctor appts (finally), but they start up when PT starts
up...then I will have 2 weeks or so of many appts back to back, so
please wish me luck as they wipe me out sometimes. Am very glad to have
the Board and email to keep in touch with everyone too. I;m also able
to do that everyday now that I can sit up without my back muscles
getting sore---laying in bed will do that to you for awhile!
Melissa.

Hi Melissa,
So glad to hear you are progressing nicely! PT and exercise does get boring and tiring but hang in there. You'll be out dancing before you know it! See you are trying without Vicodan. I think that's great, but don't wait for your pain to become severe before you try it again. Doesn't mean it will be permament this time, just to get you thru this rough patch! Have you ever tried Cymbalta or Neurontin for pain? Be careful on the crutches! Please keep us updated on your progress and know you are in the thoughts and prayers of many!

Thank you peggy, I am able to do a lot now I couldn't do...plenty of V's left over so will hold onto them. I'm guessing PT might push me hard and may need them then. Will play by ear. Neurontin I can never go on again becasue I develop amnesia badly going off that med. So badly i lose days at a time and don't remember a thing. I just go about my day and the next I cant recall what I did that day before. Thank you for your kind words.
Melissa.
