Post-op update

Hi all, thought I'd let you know how I am doing almost 3 weeks after hip replacement surgery.  The swelling and fluid overload has gone down drastically finally.  My foot hardly swells anymore.  PT is down to 2x/wk from 3x/wk now, and the visiting nurse will be discharged next week on Tuesday.  I see the surgeon Monday for a follow-up to the surgery, will have xrays done, etc to check on everything.

All the staples are out (there were actually 43 the nurse counted them) and it makes the biggest difference.  The scar doesnt itch yet but I am anticipating that any day now to start.  I'm getting a long fine on my own except I still am required to stay in the 90 degree angle (no smaller) so I still need the devices to help get me dressed in the AM.  The way I sit and everything like that will go on for about 1 1/2 - 2 months longer before anything is re-evaluated.  It's hard not being able to bend down.  Right now my mother is coming over to help with trash and the like every other day.  I still need to sleep with a pillow between my legs to keep my legs from going crossed at night or too close together.  I try to get fresh air everyday and walk around the parking lot and to get even just a little exercise.

Today my mom and I tried Nair because I cant bend to shave my legs, and the stuff works actually!  Smells not the best but it works.  And the ice packs arent' needed as much anymore.  Painkillers are though especially right in the AM and at night.  The parts that ice doe not help.  Almost done with the lovenox shots, I think 2 more days left--those are anti-clotting shots I give myself in my abdomen twice a day.  But I am definitely up more than laying down now which is nice so  I at least be on the computer more.  Hope everyone is doing well!  Thank you everyone for your continuous support and encouragement.  I truly appreciate it.

Melissa.

My friend, you are sounding so much more positive.  i got your thank you card today.  That wasn't necessary as we spoke on the phone and you thanked me then.  But your Momma raised you right.  It was a lovely card and your writing was what I expected it to be. neat and concise, no wasted words or extra flourish. I am glad you aren't itching but I am happiest that you got them out.  They were looking a little red to me. and that is just in a pic.  i am happy to hear mom is still coming around.  Survivor's on, I gotta rock. talk later.  Love, bobbie
