Hi all, as most of you know I will be having hip surgery tomorrow on the 28th of April. We leave at 4 AM for the hospital, then get there, wait till 5:45 Am , then it will take 2 hours to prep me for surgery, which is at 7:45 AM.. I am having the surgery at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Not sure how long I will be in there, either until Friday or Monday depending on how fast I am recovering. Then I go to rehab, not sure where yet but my preference is at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. (closer to home). Today I will be on and off the board doing last minute things but will check in from time to time. Because we leave so early tomorrow AM, the chances of me sleeping are minimal, so I will be awake probably most of the night.
Please wish me luck as this will be a high risk surgery unlike other hip replacments. Because of the past 2 surgeries on the same hip, there may be infection and a lot of scar tissue; there is more of a risk of the hip popping out of the socket and other things that were mentioned but in the vicinity of to be extra careful. after this surgery and recovered, I will never be able to cross my legs again, sit cross-legged, among other things, because the hip will just pop out.
If I have an infection, which they wont know until they open me up and biopsy the tissue, I wil have aan antibacterial prosthetic temporarily placed where my hip will be for 3 months. Then in 3 months I will have surgery again to remove that and out in the permanent hip. If they replace the hip without infection, and I get an infection of some kind, they need to immediately take it out, put the antibactierial one in, then 3 months later the permanet one again. I am in the high risk category for all of this, but I am hoping for the best outcome.
Melissa.
