Saw the Allergy DR

I saw the allergy DR for a follow-up yesterday.  Appt went well.  I found out (he told me) that the results of bloodwork and skin testing might not show much, even though I have food allergies (based on what I told him he said everything cross-checks to indicate food allergies) and still need the epi-pen.  The reason is because some of the medications I am on have an anti-cholergenic effect to them.  Not like Benadryl does, but to a lesser degree.

Next time I see him he said he will do the skin tests to see if anything does show up.  The tests will be in stages so not as much is introduced into my system all at once. The one I am not looking forward to is chocolate, because there is also a migraine component to it in addition to the allergy and low blood pressure that develop, and I get a bad migraine every time I have even a small amount.

Melissa.

Hi Melissa, it's been a while...how have you been?  Has the Allergy Dr told you yet which foods you are allergic to, or are you still in the beginning stages of testing?  HOPE you are not allergic to your favorite nuts :)

Hi!  I've been ok :) Thanks for asking.  Hope  you are well too!

The allergy DR thinks everything I have told him that I've experienced about I have allergies to, except that the results of those skin tests might not come back positive because of some of the meds I am on, which can interfere with results (some meds I am on have anti-histamine components, but to a lesser degree than something like Benadryl).  Any anti-histamine will interfere with the results of any allergy test.

Apparently from all I told him/my history, he said that everything I said cross-checked and made perfect sense to him.  He still wants me to carry an epi-pen around because he believes the things I told him about (and possibly other things) will cause some sort of reaction if eaten.  Even though he is doubtful the results will show as positive, he wants to do the skin tests next appt to see if anything does show up anyway.

I miss the nuts and peanut butter but when compared to what happens when I eat them, I'd rather stay away from them!

That's understandable that any anti-histamine in your system will interfere with the results of the test...but you have to take them or you'll get an allergic reaction!  So it's a Catch 22!  Hope you've found some decent replacements to nuts and peanut butter.

I'm okay, but my upper back.neck is hurting to the point where I have a headache...I went to that chiropractor a few days ago but it didn't help because it was the guy chiropractor and an intern...they don't do the special move that my regular female chiropractor does, which is where I interlace my hands behind my head, then she sticks her knee in my upper back and lifts me up...then CRACK...aaaaah!  That sucks I went on the wrong day :(    I've been stretching and it hasn't helped...will keep stretching, resting, and maybe I can try to request an emergency visit when she's there tomorrow...
