A lot is riding on this diet for me. And before you say it, yes, I should be referring to it as a "lifestyle change". Whatever! You and I both know it's a new diet. Eventually it will be a lifestyle but for now it's a diet. I am morbidly obese. Perhaps even a step above that...whatever it's called. It's imperative that I lose weight for my health. I have asthma and sleep apnea and I just want to get rid of the pair of them. I want to be able to ride in a plane without asking for an extender. I want to get on a roller coaster again. My doctor wants me to have surgery and I would be happy to comply but my insurance won't touch it. So here I am. Starting the 17 Day Diet and really, truly excited about it. The idea that I can lose weight fast makes me very happy. I need some motivating factors. It seems like all other plans want you to lose slowly. Can I tell you that 8 pounds in a month on my 5'10" frame make no difference? Yes, I know all those 8 pound months add up and make a difference but I want a change now! :)
So here's the particulars...height: 5'10"; weight: approx 375; end goal weight: 175; initial goal weight: 335

Hello and welcome :) One of the best parts of this site is that there are soo many wonderful people of all sizes, ages, familes, all here for the same goal...lose weight, feel better, gain healthly habits that will last a lifetime. You say 8 lbs wont be noticed, but you may be suprised! I have only lost 10 lbs so far but 3 inches off my body. So its not all weight, its inches too! ANd it seems, from reading, that the heavier some are they tend to lose even more than someone lighter. Dont know that to be fact, but...just be sure you get enough excercise in, whether you walk, or work out or something! It will help greatly in getting in shape faster and feeling good! Also come to the site often, get ideas, thorw out questions, keep it going! you can do it! :)
You can do this! I, too, have a lot of weight to lose. My pain management doctor threatened to stop seeing me if I did not lose 50 lbs in 6 months. He wanted me to have the weight loss surgery, but I refused, and started this diet instead. I am on cycle 3, day 10 (44 days), and I have lost 41 lbs so far. I now weigh 307 lbs, 147 lbs to go to get to my goal weight of 160 lbs.
Wow.. good for you rkdard.. that's is amazing you have lost so much weight.. I agree with momto4busykids.. Everyone on here is so genuine.. and we ALL are in the same boat - whether it's 10lbs to loose or 100lbs. I have lost 9 lbs and not so much for the weight I have lost, but I feel healthier. My skin looks better - and I don't feel so tired. When I do have a "bad moment".. and slip and eat something- my stomach just gurgles and groans and I know it's because I put the wrong food in my body. So, already my body is saying "BAD..BAD..BAD." Hang in there.. this website is awesome and some stories will really inspire you to keep going!
They say it all! This diet is going to save my life! I am just finishing cycle one and my blood sugars are stabalized and my blood pressure is normal! I am looking toward the 80lb in 6 months, I would be fine with 60lbs. I don't worry about the day to day lose, I have my eye on the long range big picture. Welcome, you are going to feel great!!
You took the first step! It will be hard, you will get dicouraged, BUT you took the first step, and now you do not have to take another one alone. We will help, just ASK! Look in the mirror NOW - there you see a winner, and I'm proud of you.

Welcome mehadaroha! You are definitely in the right place. This diet does work and you are so right, having a rapid loss right off the bat is so energizing you just want to keep going. The support here is absolutely wonderful too, it's like being able to go to a support meeting without having to get in the car. The recipe page is awesome too, check that out, I found it helped a lot to add variety to my meals.
Thanks for all the great support, ladies!!! I'm loving it so far!
I'm only on day 3 so far of Cycle 1 so I'm right there with you...I've got about 120 pounds to lose and am so excited to keep going on this program. I feel so empowered!! I've started journaling to A) keep myself accountable and B) to work through the issues I have been dealing with that led to the weight gain in the first place as well as the day-to-day challenges I face. I've already had a couple of revelations and am changing my negative thinking to positive...it'll be a long road but it all starts with a single step. HOORAY for your first step today, too!!
