I am trying to quit smoking cold turkey, because I have never had a good experience with the patches and gum. I don't smoke a ton, and I have cut back a lot, so even the lower mg patches and gum are way too strong!! At this point, I think it's the act of actually smoking that is what I am addicted to, it's more habitual than addiction I suppose. I always get that urge to smoke on my breaks at work, while I am driving to work, and certain social situations. I need to quit, it's not worth the risk. I get winded easier, it smells, it gives me bad breath, and I plan on living for a long time to watch my daughter grow and change!! I am trying to turn my life around. I have just began a gluten free diet to see if it is the reason why I have digestive issues and headaches. I will miss regular bread, but I am hoping it'll all be for the better. Maybe it'll even help me lose the 70 lbs I need to lose! If anybody has any suggestions for anything, I would greatly appreciate any advice!!

All those reasons you gave yourself to quit smoking....all those are reasons to drop cigarrettes. Each time you pick up a cigarette or want to, think of your daughter, turning your life around etc., then maybe you'll decide not to pick one up. Just a thought.
Melissa.
I did this a little over 18 years ago. Put down a 3+ pack a day habit I had for YEARS! I believe "cold turkey" is the only way to stop and STAY stopped...at least for me.
Some tips....
First, ACCEPT that you WANT one! Believe it or not, but this becomes the basis for your success. Do NOT start out with a lie...ADMIT to yourself that you WANT a cigarette.
Then, make a CHOICE not to have one right now.
Do this, over and over and over and over. The desire will seem constant at first, and then you will begin to experience small amounts of time when you do NOT think about it. These small blocks of time will grow longer over time. Even after 18 years without smoking, I STILL have moments when I want one. It passes quickly though.
Another tip: Get some toothpicks, soda straws, swizzle sticks or something of the sort. You are accustomed to the hand/mouth action. Use these aids to help with that. I chewed up a LOT of swizzle sticks!
Oh, and don't plan on LOSING any weight....sorry! You will need to watch it after you quit, I GAINED 40#,
Good luck
