Well I got off the pill 5mo. ago (hopeing to let my hormones regulate themsleves for a few mo. before my husband & I began trying to get pregnant) and little did I kno, I was opening a can of worms! After the 3rd mo. of not having a period, I went to see an OB doctor. They did a pelvic exam and took my blood. Everything felt normal and the prego & thyroid tests came back negative. I went back the next day for a sonogram to find out that I had many follicle cysts on my ovaries... which they say is "probablly" polycystic ovarian disease. The following week they had me take an injection of Progesterone to jump start my period. Indeed, it did start that next week but now, after 6wks, im back to nothing again! This is SO crazy to me because I was regular before I ever began the pill and was ofcourse regular while on it. Sooo, i began trying to research this PCOS which is why I am now more CONFUSED than ever! All the documents I have read say that it is mainly caused from a blood insulin problem with the side effects of facial hair, acne, hair loss and obesity. I have NONE of these! In fact, i only weigh about 107-110lbs. I have NEVER had any problems with acne or facial hair. My hair is fine but I have alot and it has always been that way. I am one who loves to eat healthy and excercise 5days a week so I dont understand how my blood sugar could be off! I DONT understand ANY of this and feel its starting to take over my life! :( Im used to beeing chipper & chatty and lately I have been kinda quiet and sad. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS THAT COULD GIVE ME SOME WORDS OF ADVICE?? Could this PCOS be caused from ANYTHING else besides blood sugar levels? Such as going off the pill, beeing too thin, stress, or anything that COULD apply to me? It seems my doctor is dragging her feet to just test my hormone or sugar levels! She just wants to focus on whether I want to take fratility drugs and start trying to get pregnant or to throw me back on birth control! Cant a girl just want to figure out whats wrong and fix it first? I have an apt. this week but I dont want to just choose between Clomid or birth control! I sent an email to "The Doctors Show" a few days ago but im not sure how long or if I will hear back from them. Although, I DO think an episode on PCOS would be fabulous because I have read MANY message board from other women suffering from this (just not with my EXACT situation). So, in the meantime, does ANYONE have any answers or suggestions??? If so, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fill me in! I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!!! :)

I do know after being on the pill for a long time and getting off causes different problems and it takes a while to get body back to normal. Just be patience if you are not getting the answers from your doctor maye find a new one so you can get answers. You do not need fertilaty pills it has not been long enough some times it can take a year to get back to normal and get pregnant. An Blood sugar can cause alot of problems also. Try to think positive and be patience you will be getting pregnant when you least expect it. After my daughter in law got off birth control it took her 1 yr before getting pregnant and now I have a wonderful 2 month old grand son.YAHOOOOO

Awwwe, thank you for the pep talk! :) I know it can take awhile to get back to regular after going off the pill but they didnt think it was good do go more than 3mo. without a period because you run the risk of the tissues building up in your uterus and it can eventually cause cancerous cells. :( I go back to the Dr. tomorrow so hopefully I will have some more answers!
I was diagnosed with PCOS in January of this year, and I have never had problems with my blood sugar. My doctor told me that it is mostly just something that happens when your hormones become out of whack. There is not always a specific cause or something that starts it, it can just start itself. It is a pain to deal with, but I was told that I will have no problem getting pregnant when I am ready which was also my main concern after getting well.
im a mother of 4, ages 10, 9, 7, and 11m. i started depo after my 3rd child at n the age of 20 after bein on depo for 3 years it took me 2 years to get pregnant. i had no period for the first year after stoppin depo n very irregular periods after that.. i always looked at myself as bein healthy, runnin after 3 kids, bein 24, 5ft 11in 150lbs, i figured i was in tip top shape n couldnt figure out why i was havin trouble gettin pregnant ( it was soooooo easy b4! lol) .. i was in too good of shape! sounds crazy, i know, but my dr told me to GAIN weight to get pregnant. once i started puttin on the pounds my periods came back to normal. i beefed myself up to 190lbs n i was able to get pregnant n now i have a 11m lil girl!! idk why but if i let my self drop below 175lbs i get hypoglycemic n my period gets irregular then eventually stops..
another thing i did was i took GUAIFENESIN 400mg 2 tabs 4x a day. its the stuff in mucinex, it thins your cevical mucus out, so the sperm can get to the egg easier. i would start takin it on 10th day of my cycle for a week. after the second month of doin this i found out i was pregnant!!!
im not sure which one did the trick, or if it was the combo, but it helped me..
GOOD LUCK n keep me posted

Hi,
I have more or less the same story: many follicle cysts on my ovaries, no overweight, constant excercising, healthy food. The same questions, same no answers. I've been taking contraceptove pills and synthetic progesterone after for almost 13 years now. I don't believe it's doing me any good and wondering if there's anything else that could help. I would appreciate if you share any info you got.
Best wishes,
Nat
My suggestion is to find another doctor! You need someone who is willing to help you and not treat you as another patient! As for PCOS...you dont have to have all the symptoms to have it. Sounds to me like you have a mild case of PCOS which is good...me on the other hand have every symptom! So even though your tiny that doesnt count you out for this disease. If you do have cysts on your ovaries then yes more than likely you too now suffer from this. Consider yourself lucky though and keep your head up...you have a mild case and thats more than I can say for 80% of women who do have this! Go here... www.soulcysters.com ...and join there is a section in the forums for doctors recommended. You need to find a new Dr. who will monitor your cysts! Good luck!!
I don't know how long this was posted but I am a 24 year PCOS person I was diagnosed at age 14 and it was several years before they accuatlly knew what to prescribe I was put on Glucophage 500mg three times a day it got my AF coming every 28-30 days if I quit the glucophage I don't have a period simple as that I have had 5 misscarrages and 1 eptopic pregnancies.
I have Poly Cystic Ovaries , iam 24 years old,, I've married for one year and four months , i am so sad because i want to be pregnant soon , my question is : What can i do to solve this health problem ?
thanks
Hello! I am 25 years old & I have PCOS as well. I was diagnosed with it about 4 years ago but I think I had it for much longer because I had been suffering from VERY painful periods all the time & irregular periods somtimes since I was 17. I dont have a lot of the side effects. Im 5'4 about 125. When my DR diagnosed me with PCOS, I was put on METFORMIN to treat it, which is a medication that is used for diabetics but its only other use is to treat PCOS. I was on that medication for awhile, and then they had taken me off from that & I went on a special type of birth control pill that was used as a treatment for the PCOS because the DR said it would help level out my hormones or regulate them.
When I first had a sonogram done & they had told me that I had PCOS, the Dr. told me I would probably not be able to get pregnant & if I did it would be extremely hard & I might need to take fertility drugs when I was ready to conceive. I was beyond DEVASTATED. I did not want kids at that very moment, but all my life I could not wait to have a child of my own & couldnt wait to be a mom. It was something that was very important to me. Well 3 years later, here I am and I am pregnant! I was not planning it, it had just happened because I was on birth control as my treatment, and I had finished a pack, & was waiting for my new period to start so I could start a new pack. I wasnt pregnant but my period was just irregular from the PCOS. While I was waiting for my period to come, I had gotten pregnant. So if they told you that you wouldnt be able to without fertility meds, (or your new Dr tells you) it is not always true but I do know that alot of women with PCOS do have trouble getting pregnant and some never can. I feel blessed that I was able to get pregnant even though it wasnt planned ( I still have 2 yrs of school left!) My fiance & I are expecting a little girl April 25th, 2011 and I couldnt be happier. I felt the lowest of the lows when they told me I most likely wouldnt be able to conceive. I suggest you get a new doctor or ask you doctor about taking the metformin medication as treatment or they can put you on a certain birth control pill that will regulate your hormones. Good luck hunny & I will pray for you!
