Diabetes Help

Hi I am 43 years old and am a diabetic on an insulin pump. I lost my insurance 5 years ago when my husband suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and had to go on disability. I am looking for help with my infusion sets and resevoirs for paradaim minimed insulin pump. The company is of no help and I cannot find any resources. If someone out there can point me in the right direction I would certainly appreciate it. I am not wanting to go back on 4 shots a day and all the high and low bloodsugars that come along with it.

The only thing that comes to mind is asking your DR to write a prior authorization letter to the company stating WHY you need the company to continuing givine the insulin pump to you.  The company might change it's mind from the DRs letter.  Sometimes a DRs letter can change things around.  The company just my not know how much you need it.

I understand your problem well.  First off you can get generic supplies even for the paradigm that work well and cost less.  I too have been without insurance and have been on an insulin pump for 30+ years.  In California your county health services has a program for the medically indigent.  During a particularly tough phase they purchased a new pump and paid for my supplies.  You should start calling and asking, it's called CMSP in most areas they follow the same rules as medi-cal for pump coverage.  You should be fine.

Have you tried asking your DR. for some samples to offset the cost?  or  Health Department . What size resevoirs and what type of infusion sets do you use? I have some extras that they sent me in error that I was going to donate to my Dr's office, bec they were the wrong size for my pump.

Thank you for the ideas. I am in North Carolina and while they have excellent programs for healthcare for the uninsured the only things they dont help with it seems is the actual pump supplies and test strips. I do not qualify for any of the medicaid or anything like that. As far as the generic supplies. can you tell me who makes them and the website to purchase them?
