Lisie- This is just a suggestion, since I have absolutely no medical knowledge or training, whatsoever; I am just offering my opinion, woman-to-woman!  Perhaps you should consider consulting another Dr.; that way, you will either receive a different diagnosis (and perhaps a course of treatment), OR you might find out that the second Dr. agrees with the first, and you should just wait it out (as the first Dr. has already advised) and hope that the problem will take care of itself. 

I think that if I were in your situation, the discharge and odor would be bothersome enough to me, that I would want to continue to pursue both the probable cause, and any possible remedies ASAP!  Since there are so many tests and medications available for so many things now, I wouldn't rest until I found someone who is willing and able to "go the whole nine yards" for- and with- me!  After all, I wouldn't want to take a chance to allow the condition to possibly worsen over time (and potentially cause additional problems), if it could be resolved quickly now, instead!  Good luck to you!
