2 yr old...Gallbladder Cancer??
We've had a crazy 2008.
Our son got the RotaVirus at 16 months old, also ot a UTI, so was sent for an ultrasound to check his bladder (which was fine), but they said he had stones on his Gallbladder. Took meds to dessolve them, but within 2 mnths they had grown, so his GI Dr decided to remove it, which they did Nov 2nd. 1 wk later, the DR called and says that there was NO stones in his Gallbladder...that it was growths and it actually was CANCER. We couldn't believe it. He's 2 yrs old....
The De suggested we do another surgery now to take off 1/2 inch off his liver (everywhere the gallbladder was touching), removed his common bile duct and replaced it with a piece of his intestine and test areas around it. That surgery was done Nov 20th. A few days later...the Oncologist comes in and says that the Cancer is now in his Liver and that he needs to start Chemo.
We were released the day before Thanksgiving and we were VERY thankful to have him home. Monday 12/01/08...The Surgeon calls and unbelievably, tells us that the tests are actually ALL NEGATIVE and that he DOESN'T have Cancer, He did say that he has "Papillomatosus" cells at the bottom of the duct that can turn into cancer or not. We're gonna have to keep doing tests every 3mnths to monitor it.
Our DRs did say this RARE and that he was the 7th case in the world. That the average person that gets Gallbladder Cancer is 70yr old men, not 2 yr old boys. So we did sign papers allowing research on this..hopefully we can get some answers.
Since the virus, walking has been hard and he's very weak , tests and a muscle biopsy came back normal. The Neurologist thinks the cancer might have been the cause of that as well, so we're just hoping that it fixes it. God bless Our Little Man!!
