is it possible to find out whether there was a lack of oxygen in a baby when he was born? i mean, 3 years after he was born?
the thing is when i was pregnant i never-ever had contractions, i told my doctors about it (it runs in the family) and they didn't have too much concern about this issue.. well, my due date was on june 27th. and nothing, on july 1st. we went to the usual appointment and they were going to discuss a c-section then when i told them my boy hasn't moved and they hoked me up to this machine, etc. etc... one hour later, my boy was born and they had to put him in an artificial respirator.
he is 3 (wonderful) years old now and he still doesn't talk.
any comments?
thanks!! :-)

Hi! You can ask for copies of your son's medical records from the hospital if you haven't done so already. You will have to sign a request form and it may take a while to get the records, but reading his medical chart might give you some answers. It should give you your son's APGAR scores after birth. Due to the 2000 character limit on this blog, I won't go into detail, but you can google apgar and read more about it. I would start with the medical record first. If you have not already had your son evaluated by a speech therapist, I would check into that also. I am an Occupational Therapist and work with children from birth to 21 years and work with children with all kinds of delays. Best wishes and if you get a chance let me know what you find out. thank you so much, zachsotmom!
they tested him in jan. 08, and they told us that he is in the AS as mild to moderate... i don't mean to seem as if i have blinders in my eyes but, his only problem is the lack of speech, he had a ST for a year and, yes, he improved some and at the end she just told me that he "didn't" need to talk so, why bother? meaning that i read his mind all the time lol. anyways, his apgar score was 5 at 1 min. and 9 at 5 mins. (for what i recall). he had to use oxygen for his first 2 mos. due to a pulmonary hypertension.
he started with an OT and she also told me that she doesn't think he is autistic for he knows how to let ppl. know what he wants and he likes to be the "center of attention", if he needs something he tells you right at your face!... now, he will have the OT at school, he started pre-k a week ago and i really hope that helps him! always/only mom and dad and nobody else around must be boring for him.
i really appreciate you took the time to reply, i thank you zillions!
Hi again,
It almost sounds like Asperger's instead of Autism, but I am obviously not a doctor or diagnostician. I have just worked with a few children with Aspergers and they did the same thing; talked when they wanted to and usually right in your face. School will be really good for him. It's great that he has an OT with him; she will be able to help him if he has any difficulty with transitions. Have you ever tried acting like you don't know what he wants (when he doesn't talk), so he has to use his words and tell you what he wants? If you've had speech therapy involved already, I'm sure you've tried a # of strategies. Hang in there. Kids also go through strange phases as you know and he'll probably start talking so much, you'll want him to be quiet. LOL. Have a nice weekend! Mary Lou
Without knowing to many of the circumstances. My opinion from working in labor & Delivery. There definately could be a coorelation. The amount of oxygen a newborn baby receives is very imperittive Alot of studies to check out. I wish you all well Let me know if I can do anything,

My heart goes out to families who have children with unidentifiable causes for mysterious symptoms. There is one area most people decide to turn their heads away. It is vaccination. This is one of the biggest human experiments done by the pharmicutical companies. The brainwhashing of America if not the world is astounding and we let the government decide for us, willingly without question, what bio hazzards to put into our children and soldiers. If you research what goes into vaccines your head will spin. You decide if the benifits out weigh the risks. I saw a very vibrant lively six month old, who easily engaged in eye contact and socialization, totally dissociate after the father went behind the mother's back and vaccinated him. I am not directing this letter to anyone in particular. I just thought it the subject needed addressing since it is on the table. We have been trained to blindly accept "authorities" word as gospel. Well....they are not G*d , neither am I, but I won't give my G*d given power to anyone who acts like they think they are!
Blessings, Claudia

This is so weird. My son was born in march of 05. He was born really quick and the fluid was not expelled from his lungs and stomach. He did not breathe on his own for almost 10 minutes after birth. The told me that it is an ackward time weather or not it effected him either. he is now 3.5 and talks very little and I can't seem to get him to potty train either. He also was almost a year and a half old before he walked too. You get any info let me know as well. metallicarox1978@yahoo.com
