I am 48 and have Mono, I have not been around anyone with mononucleosis, but I have been run down and did have a sinus infection, and don't know if that could have lead to further complications. It is amazing to me how much people in the medical field do not know about this virus. I received so many different answers, but the worst is the chest pains, they keep telling me its anxiety, but after looking it up online pericarditis is a rare complication that comes with mononucleosis. I still have the pains they come and go and they have done numerous tests, so is it possible for them to miss this?? I have never been prone to anxiety attacks in my entire 48 years of life and I have been very very healthy my whole life, I was just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this and can give me some direction.

MONO is not fun. I had it twice. I had heard that you couldn't get it twice but you can. I got it from running myself down and not getting enough sleep and not eating enough. The best advice that I got was to take the supplement CO-Q10 and Echinacea w goldenseal. That combination felt like it made a HUGE difference and speeded up my recovery the second time around. Of course, drink lots of WATER. I hope you feel better soon!!! Take care.
I had mono when I was in high school and missed a whole month. I showed up to work because they begged me and my family said you can't go to work... I went and a customer came in and reemed my boss out telling her to "send the girl home"... After which the month of laying in bed. It was so bad that I was in bed and barely able to move for that duration.... not impressed because I was doing horse jumping (normally rode bareback and western) but this was so different.... anyhoooo No one, even back then, seemed to know what was going on. They told me I got it from the school water fountain yet others said it was because I was going to school and working and all sort of activities and just ran myself into the ground... plus my Diabetes didn't help in it all. Of course this was 25 years ago.
Hi, I have anxiety attacks and if you had one you would know it. Can you tell me about the chest pain?
I ask because of pain that I have and was told that X-ray showed Copd.
Hi,
This is so weird my VERY HEALTHY JOCK sonny boy who is 1st year college kid wasnt feeling well and who works out like a freak wasnt feeling well and we took him to the Dr's. They felt under his jaw bone and ran a blood test and BOINK he too had MONO. He lives in NJ. I am unsure if it is he is exposed to alot of people or what but they Prescribed ALOT of bedrest, fluids etc and once you get it there isnt a whole you can do about it. It used to be considered "the kissing disease.
xox
To label-free :) When I was sick with mono, the first time, I was a GIRL JOCK. In fact, I was on vacation in Napa, However, we were playing tennis 4 hours a day and golf and working out and hiking EVERYDAY. We got no sleep. I got a long vacation from my vacation when I got mono. I wasn't kissing anyonne, unfortunately, so they said it was because I ran myself down on vacation. It is very common for college kids to get MONO. I have learned a lot about mono, since I had it twice. You can definitely get it if you run yourself down. The best advice is like "ilovemyboyz" said to drink green tea w honey, lots of rest and 2 to 3 quarts of water. Eating healthy will make the difference between being sick for a month or three months. Make sure he eats VERY HEALTHY. It can be a deceiving illness because you might think you are getting better and try to do something strenuous and have a set back. Listen to your body. Again, when I took CoQ 10 and Echinacea w Goldenseal and ate really healthy I was only sick a few weeks as opposed to three months the first time I had it. :) TAKE CARE
Hi LEISHABELLE:
I have posted a few things after your post However, I missed when you talked about having chest pain. I thought I would tell you that I had my first anxiety attack when I had MONO and experienced some chest pain. I am a female athlete and was healthy but was running myself ragged doing too much. This virus is attacking your immune system so it can make you ache in many areas. Your intercostal muscles (sp?) are all around your chest region and the tissue can become really sore. You can google and look for some stretches to get that lactic acid moving. You might find some Youtube videos on how to stretch or treat the intercostals and I would stick to a bland diet. Spicy foods and citrus can make you sensitive. If your chest pain comes with pain on your lower chin or down one side of your arm and jaw, then you should consult your Dr. You WILL get through this. It is not fun but it does go away. Take care!!! Paige
