I'm really frustrated, Before my dx I weighed 140. Now I weigh 187.8 that is crazy. Granted, Dx since 4-16-08 and been on meds since but, I can gain weight like mad. For example I have golden rule never step on scale unless at dr's office well I did (my bad)!! The 13lbs I had lost 9-08 I had gained 20 lbs back. It's all I can think about it's irratating, Because I feel so much better have more energy, and my ambition comes back with my weight loss and even a 5-10 lbs gain backslides me. I'm still seeing my Dr and we are still gradually increasing meds as we should but this feels like it is taking to long and I feel like I am not winning . I know the meds are not a cure all believe me done tons of research on HYPO but meds help control the gaining. AT A LOSS

I understand your frustration when it comes to hypothyroidism. Not to sound too dicouraging but I have been treated for this disease for 21 years (come next month) and I am still not on the right dosage. My TSH levels ar generally around 50-70 but I have had them as high as 250+. I have been to many doctors including specialists, they always think they are going to be the one to "fix" me. Still looking. At this point I doubt there is any part of my body not affected by my thyroid disease. Sometimes I feel like if I went to the doctor with a broken leg he would tell me thyroid related. Last year I was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes...luckily I was able to get that one under control with diet and very minimal exercise. Most recently I have been suffering additional (more than normal) amounts of pains and fatigue. Turns out I also have lupus.
I do not have teenagers so I am unable to empathize with you on that one, but I do have young children. My youngest is 18 mos and I am a stay-at-home mom. Somedays I think I must be the most horrible mother in the world cause I don't want to do anything but lie on the couch all day. I know it's not fair to my children, so I force myself to be involved to the point I just have to cry. I end up crying in the bathroom alot.
Keep your chin up (sorry, I know it's cheesey) and I hope you feel a little better everyday.

I have had hypothyroidism for quite awhile, but have just been getting treatment for it for the past year. I hate it because I gain weight very quickly and then a few months later can lose it the same way. I take Synthroid, but not sure if it is helping or not. I lose my hair, have dry skin, am tired all the time and would love to hear if there are any other options. Live in a small community, so not much here.
