I'm not sure everyone understood what my concerns were completely about on self diagnosis.  I was commenting on others about the flu which is very serious in its own rights but my concerns lay about other parts of my body that i feel my doctor didn't properly check for.  I know that you ladies will understand what i'm talking about is not usually found in men but is possible.  It's been over two months now that I started having bad pains in my nipples. (lol) don't know how else to describe this.  anyway i started feeling a lump right under the right nipple.  my doctor checked them with a flat hand and said there was nothing but if i wanted i could come back in a couple of months.  that was in sept.  the lump has gotten bigger now and my left nipple has developed a small lump and very painfull to touch.  After watching Lisa show how to check your breast for lumps, i realized my doctor evidently has never examined a woman or a man for breast cancer.  i have an appointment with my liver doctor the 30th of this month and with her being a female i'm going to have her check again for me.  Just wanted you to know that the flu isn't my concern right now and do hope this is  caused by something else and that i'm just being paranoid.  I am a recovering addict/alcoholic so we have a tendency to fall back on our fears now and then.  Thanks ladies

Sorry Larry,

I hope you find someone that will check you out,

it sounds serious but being that I am a woman, I

wouldn't know who would help if your primary dr.

couldn't help or refer you to someone that could,

but someone on here will have the answer. Pain

or change in lumps or tenderness is what they tell

us to watch out for. Get help somewhere soon.

I agree with sludge.  I'd get that checked.  Am surprised your doctor didn't know how to do a breast exam?  If anything they should be doing one on themselves, male or female.

Melissa.

Hello, Larry. Nice to meet you and I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated. Just a couple questions. How big are the lumps? Pea size/ Dime size/ Quarter size? What is the shape of the lump? Oval. round, or very irregular shaped? Does the lump move at all if you push on it? Is the lump smooth? Squishy? Hard? Can you move it around underneath your skin? Any discharge from the nipple?

Malignant masses are usually very hard and are irregularly shaped. They are a rough texture rather than smooth. They usually don't roll around under the skin and tissue. Malignant lumps usually don't budge. They feel like they're stuck to something like the ribs or underlying tissue. I use the word "usually" strongly.

I agree that you need to pursue this further. Don't let them brush you off. Ask for a Mammogram or an Ultrasound.
