I also suffer from migraines as it is a family trait, my aunt takes shots for her migraines but they just aren't for me. I take was is called depakene it is a migraine medicine as is a medicine called depakote. They are also anti-seizure medicines so they may not be in your best interest. But when I feel really bad I close off all the lights and sound ( as much as possible ) and heat up a wash rag- as hot as you can stand it and lay down with the rag over your eyes and head and rest. This action usually put me to sleep but when I wake up the migriane is usually gone.
Let me know if any on this works for you
Lots of luck, Carrie
Jenn - see my blog on migraine headaches. There are some great comments there that might help you.
I suffer from them too and as suggested in onr of the blogs was to keep a log of what I eat. I started to do that in case I need to show my doctor one day. I aslo TRY really hard to stay away from Excedrin Migraine. I think my body got so used to it that I was taking it daily. I used to get really bad migraines where I needed to go tot he hospital and get a shot for the pain. I haven't had one of those for a long time but I get mild ones from time to time.
I also suffered from migraines. My doctor tried many medications for me, finally I've found one that works. Ask about TOPIRAMATE. If you havn't tried it all ready. It prevents migraines. I've been on the medication for 2 months now and havn't had a migraine since I started taking it. It works for me, hope it works for you.
I've had common migraines long as I have been alive - some 62 years! I went to a neurologist who specialized in headaches. Nothing can get rid of them except some surgery techniques which my really good insurance won't pay for (nor Botox). Therefore we tried a lot of "cocktails", but the best thing that worked for me is a nightly combo of two Amitriptyline 10mg, 2 Doxephin 10mg, one Clonazepam 1mg and 20mg Lexipro. I used to take Imitrix, but became immune to it and switched to Zomig 5mg. If I get a migraine anyway, I take a Zomig AND Ibuprophen the moment I feel pressure in my temple. If I awake with a headache or it gets a long start, there is the Zomig in the nose spray but it leaves an awful taste in my mouth. Drinking something helps the taste. The antidepressants are definitely helping me. It's so much better than it was. Just remember, my "cocktail" won't help everyone. Every BODY is different.
I highly advise you to find a qualified acupuncturist in your area. I have successfully treated many cases of migraines. All without drugs. We get to the cause of your migraines and bring your body back into balance. It really does work!
