About Me
For as long as I can remember fitness has always been a part of my life....as a preschooler I recall waking up at 6am just to catch Mousercise on the Disney channel, getting excited over my first exercise mat from "Get in Shape Girl", endless hours of dance classes at Louis McKay Dance Studio, and cheerleading practice alright maybe that was to hangout with the football players :-). As an adult, I had a plethora of gym memberships - early 90's Family Fitness Center, mid 90's Frog's Athletic Club, millenium 24 HR Fitness, to the present Tricity Wellness Center.
With this passion you'd think I would have sought a career in Health and Fitness. Life steered me in a different direction - at least for a few years. After receiving my Bachelors degree in Biopsychology from the University of California San Diego, I got married and my husband and I purchased our first home. Its amazing how a mortgage payment can really commit you to a steady job. I landed my first gig working in the Action Sports industry. I loved it for a number of reasons - fun, casual working environment, lots of travel (I did international sales and eventually production for the Juniors clothing line), and free swag. My weekly routine was sitting in an office 50+ hours a week, gulping down Starbucks lattes, barely catching a bite during the day and eating out most nights - my metabolism was dwinddling, and my stress level was sky HIGH. It was around the summer of 2008, my hubby and I decided to participate in a high intensity interval "bootcamp" style class. After a couple weeks of these classes, I saw results immediately. I felt great and it reminded me of how much I loved fitness...so much so I researched fitness programs within the San Diego area. I immediately enrolled at UCSD for their Fitness Instruction and Exercise Science PM program. By the end of the program, I became an ACE certified personal trainer and it was a good thing I did because after being in the apparel and international logisitics industry for over six years....I was one of the fortunate souls that got the "pink slip" in early 2009.
Hence the blog - I realized after evaluating my own lifestyle how easy it was to fall into an unhealthy rut. I wanted to be a voice to anyone that would listen, to promote healthy living. Many of us commute to work, work long hours, have poor eating habits, lack physical activity, do not get enough sleep and have enormous amounts of stress.
Stress was an all too close friend of mine. It had such a negative effect on my body that I wasn't able to get pregnant. It wasn't until I truly commited to living a healthier life that I quickly found myself pregnant. My pregnancy was amazing - minus the first trimester "morning" sickness, haha. I really enjoyed every moment of it. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl in early 2010. Aside from my husband, she is the love of my life! Becoming a mom has been such a wonderful experience, BUT no book, person, or website can truly prepare you for motherhood. Since the new addition to our family, the focus of the blog has evolved - like all other areas in my life - into a potpourri of health and fitness tips, research, Q&A sessions with experts, and my personal experiences to educate, inspire and motivate other MODERN MOMS striving for balance in the midst of chaos. To adopt a HEALTHIER HABIT, everyday.
