I am 18 weeks and 4 days pregnant and I feel like I'm choking. I have great difficulty breathing, and I can hear my heart beat very fast and very loud. My blood count is fine, my iron level is great, I am 104 pounds (so it's not that I'm over weight), and I barely show. Has anyone been through this? I seriously can't breath and it's driving me NUTS! Please help... I can handle all the pregnancy symptoms but this is just too much for me.

If you can't breathe you better get medical attention.Your heart beating fast and loud might be anxiety from being scared from not breathing right.
My loud heart beat has been bothering me for days. I saw my Dr. immediately who thought it was anemia, but tests showed that my iron was great. She told me not to worry about it, but it's like Chinese torture! imagine hearing your heart beat all day. I can't breathe now, it's 2:30 a.m. here, and I don't know if I should wait till tomorrow or go to an ER for an oxygen mask. Is this normal?
I would get it checked out now,if its nothing aleast you have peace of mind......
Of course you should see your doctor if you can't breathe, but it might be anxiety. Sometimes with anxiety you think that you can't breathe, and since you think that you can't breathe you concentrate more on your breathing which in turn can make you anxiety even higher, which causes you to breathe faster and make you feel like you can't breathe. Can you talk? Cause if you can talk than you are breathing fine, make sure your lips aren't turing blue too. Pregnancy hormones can make your mind play tricks on you sometimes. I had the worst anxiety towards the end of my last pregnancy, and I would call my mom freaking out cause I thought I couldn't breathe and she would always say "if you are talking than you are breathing", which is totally true, I would almost hypervenalate from starting to breathe so fast. As far as the heart rate, that could be from high anxiety too from thinking that you can't breathe. Plus, you have way more blood that your heart is pumping while you are pregnant than when you are not pregnant, and I was told that can cause your heart rate to go up too. Good Luck, and I'd like to hear an update when you find out what's going on with you.
Please get checked out. Make sure they check your lungs. You are the only one who can be an advocate for yourself and your unborn baby. Ask as many questions as you need to and your Doctor should answer them all! If you feel like you need to go to the ER...go! It's important that you listen to that inner voice if something doesn't seem quite right.
Good Luck ~
It seems silly to add this since I am sure your doctor thought of this but have you checked into pregnancy induced asthma? What you are describing sounds like an asthma attack. I hope everything works out!
If you are serious one thing you should look at is heartburn which is common in pregnant women. You could also look at your salt content. Only if you are serious about this subject respond.
Just came back from the Dr.... apparently, what I'm feeling is anxiety. I didn't even know I was that worried and scared. She gave me a lecture on how I shouldn't worry so much, and I must admit it is exactly what I needed to hear. We also had an ultra sound, and it turns out the baby gained some weight, is very healthy, and we're going to have a baby girl :) Thanks for all your advice :)
I too am 18 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Am suffering from insomnia and can't breathe. Hav enot slept for more than 2 hours since a week. Feel claustrophobic at times. This is getting really difficult. My pulse rate is very high too.

I am new to this so if there is a ? you would like to ask do so. I have responded to your blog.
Don't worry Kaycee, a pregnant woman's pulse is usually faster because her heart is pumping blood for her and the baby. I thought my pulse was extremely fast but my doctor listened to it and said it's quite normal for a pregnant woman. To be on the safe side, please check your iron, as anemia causes a high pulse rate. I still feel short of breath and times but all I usually do is try to relax and no matter how cold it is outside I crack a window open to let some fresh air inside. You could be having anxiety attacks like me, but I was completely unaware that I felt scared and confused. I always thought I was excited and happy all the time about being pregnant. Anxiety also causes insomnia, so try your best to relax by getting a massage, going shopping, whatever makes you happy. If all this fails, please see your doctor, as you might be suffering from depression and should be put on herbal anti-depressants. Take good care of yourself Kaycee
