About Me

i am seventeen and love school. i am planning ro become a pediatrician in the future. i was recently diagnosed with psychogenic non epileptic seizures. these are basicly seizures that occur because my body and min are stressed and need to let it out. not many people understand this concept not even my own doctors until i went to a specialist. he diagnosed and has started treatment. they have decreased. i am not able to attend school because of this and have been home schooled since september. i am graduating in January. i have two cats, bonnie and Clyde. i love dogs, but my puppy died last thanksgiving, i miss her. she was only two when she died of bone cancer. i lov ehorses, but have not ridden one since i was four. i played soccer for ten years and basketball for four. i love swimming but am not able to do so because of the seizures. i am also unable to drive, that sucks. most days i am home surfing the net or listening to music. i watch the doctors when i can, between teachers and seizures and doctors appointments. my favorite is dr. sears. my favorite tv show is House, i never miss and episode, even if i'm in the hospital. i love House!!

I would live to hear from you.  My daughter is 12 years old and has been diagnosed with the same thing.  We do not believe it, and some other doctors do not as well.  I would love to know more about your story.  My daughter has been to 3 diffirent hospitals with her seizures and we may end up at another one.  Right now she is on a medicine called Keppra and it seems to be working.  We have gone 3 weeks without one which is our longest.  She also went back to school this week.  She had not been there since mid October.  You can email me at amygilgram@chartertn.net

thank you so much for your concern. i've heard the doctors say that i have had grand mal siezures and tonic clonic. i have no idea what htat means. sometimes i can feel them coming on, but i can't stop them. other times i can't feel it and i just collapse, those are the ones that scare me. when i do feel them, it's a really weird feeling. it's like my heart does something funny, then i get really cold. then i get light headed and dizzy. the next thing i know i'm waking up and don't know where i am.

as for shriners, i originally went for a hole on my back and a deformed foot. i had surgery on my foot when i was ten. after that my knee started to hrt and they found a bone chip pressing on a tendon. they removed that. then i got burstitis in my hip. my knee still hurts... alot.

after the siezures, i have really bad headaches and i feel like i'm going to blow chunks. i really hate this. i've always been the one with the medical problems, even before i was born i was causing trouble.

i have thought that maybe that thing in my brain couls be causing this. i hope not, but i can't get the thought out of my mind. the siezures get worse when i have my period, like really bad. sometimes i have siezures every ten to twenty minutes. i dont know how much more i can take.

I hope that you find answers when you go for your second opinion next week to why you are having seizures at such a frequent rate, I don't want to scare you but this could be a possibilty that the thing the left side of your brain could be pressing on the part of your brian that causes seizures and they need to do surgery to remove it and release that pressure  but that is onle one possibilty and probably won't even come to that.

What type of seizures do you have? And if it isn't too personal why did you go to the Shiner's? My seizures which is the rarest of the epilepsy is due to my CP, my absent seizures are also called Physco Motor Seizures. If you don't have Peite Mal or Grand Mal where you go into convultions and you can feel a seizure coming on have some one sit with you and talk with you and that way you will have someone with you if you go into a seizure or just having some one talking to you may be enough to keep you from going into one. If you tend to get dizzy when you go into a seizure you may want to invest in Meclizine ( travel sickness ) pills it helps with the vertigo as does a cool wash rag.

Im including my e-mail address at the bottom I would very much like to keep in touch with you and do what I can to help you through this even if it is to be an ear to bend when you need some one to talk with. I know your scared I'm still scared and I've been living with my seizures for almost 14 years.

I will be keeping you in my thoughts throught this time, Carrie
