pnes- does anyone know about this

created on: 11/15/09My 18yr old daughter was in perfect health up until 6/09 when she was hospitalized for what we now know as a psudeosiezure. Her tremmors had stopped for a while, But now in the past couple of days these siezures have sent her to the emergancy room twice by ambulance. Then we are sent home from the hospital because they can do nothing for her. It is very upsetting for our family, to have no answer on this horrible condition. She needs some sort of relief, and answers to why she is twitching and having a siezure.Besides the doctors saying this is all in her head.Because it is very real to us and the people who are around her when this happens. Can you please help us.

Get her vitamin D blood level and calcium level tested.  You will probably find that her vitamin D level is very low and possibly calcium as well.  Vitamin D should be between 40-60 ng/ml at a minimum, and calcium between 8.6-10.2.  If she is taking anti-seizure med's, this will just lower her vitamin D level even more. For many research articles on vitamin D and epilepsy (the closest thing I could find to your description) go to: http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/science/research/vitamin-d-and-epilepsy.shtml.  There is also vitamin D info on my profile.  It is not directly related to what your daughter is experiencing, but there is a lot of evidence out there that links vitamin D deficiency to neurological problems, I would read it anyway, and let me know if you have any questions.  If your doctor doesn't know how to treat vitamin D deficiency, if she does have this, contact one of the doctors/scientists on my profile.  Take care.

Thank you for your advice Larissalle, our doctor gave us the same advice back in July. The calcium worked for 2 months before her tremors came back. Now it's not just the tremors but siezure as well. and all her tests always come back normal. I'm afraid to let her go any where for fear I will get a call that shes on her way to the hospital. And let me tell you it's not easy telling a 18 year old that she can't do things.

I know how you are feeling my 17 year old Daughter last year start having what doctors are calling panic attacks or sudo seizures last year. She has always been heathly. Then out of the blue these seizures start happening they can last for 10 min. We have had all kinds of test done but they all come back normal.

They did put her on Keppra for seizures but if they are not real seizures then why should she take it. At the hospital all they did was drug her up and send her home. She was so drugged she could not even walk.

I think they need to do a show about Sudo Seizures. Some one please help me I am so worried about what is happening with my daughter. Some please help

Hi, Genevieve, you say they put her on calcium.  What about her vitamin D level?  Do you know what it was and have you had it retested?
