My son was normal until he received his vaccines.   His first shots were 2/10/92.  By 4/19/02 there were signs he was not developing correctly.  By next set of shots, he forgot how to vocalize, and eventually crawl or sit up.  Pedicatrician noted his conditioning was worsening with each and every shot.  How can doctors say there is no correlation between shots and autism?   Comments anyone?

IT TOOK UNTIL HE WAS 3 1/2 TO GET HIM DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM… I BELIEVE THAT THE MMR VACCINE CAUSED THE AUTISM … I ALSO BELIEVE A CEASIN FREE & GLUTEN FREE DIET HELPS HIM…WHICH IS ALSO NOT PROVEN IN STUDIES… PLEASE ASK PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM WHAT THE RESULTS OF VACCINES ARE ON THIER CHILDREN AND HOW DIET CAN HELP…I HAVE A 3 1/2 YEAR OLD WHO CAN NOT TELL ME HIS NAME…MAY YOU NEVER HAVE TO WALK IN THE SHOES OF A PARENT OF AN AUSTISTIC CHILD…

Yes, I do think that vaccines cause autism. I just watched the segment on autism and I am appaled that the doctors would say that the thimerasol is out of the vaccines.. there is only one company that makes vaccines thimerasol free. and there is no one requiring doctors to use that vaccine. and the ones that say they are free of mercury…they are not, they put it in they try to take it out, you cannot completely get the mercury out. Please get the right information. I have an autistic child that when we cleansed him of his vaccines and the mercury, he started making eye contact and the meltdowns lessened. Please get that information out.

My son is 7 months old and he has had all his shots. However, my husband and I decided to split them up and not get them all at once. My biggest fear is when he turns 1 when he is required to get his MMR. I have heard about too many studies and stories of Autism being linked to the MMR shot. What I wonder is if we are able to split up the MMR shot and if that would make a difference. It is so hard being a parent and knowing what the right thing to do for your child is. While I was pregnant I went back and forth on if I was going to get my son his vaccines or not. I just hope one day they find the cause to this disease.

NO.. I would not get the mmr vaccine if I were you…..they are not safe…in my opinion… unless you talk to the doctor and read the insert that comes with the vial..you have that right…..

I have a six month old daughter and im so up in arms whether to get her MMR vacines or not???? Do I wait or do i froget them totally? Really not sure what to do and if i can keep my healthy child healthy i would rather keep it that way rather then subjecting her to autism! What is a worried mom to do?

I would not get the vaccines until you have done all the research that you can do.. Talk to your doctor….read the insert with the vaccines, and do alot of research..the internet is a great source for you.

I agree 100% with autismmom – I wouldn’t get the MMR for your child. I’m not getting it for my 2nd son who is 16 months old. I wish I could go back in time and not have allowed my first son to get it. But at least I can spare my second. You might want to read the MMR thread on the October 30th show. There is a lot of GREAT info there.

I believe that the vaccination for pertussus can be part of the cause of a child becoming Autistic. Two of my three children severely reacted to their vaccination. Their pediatrician would no longer vaccinate them for pertussus. My son, who did react to the shot, does have Aspergers Syndrome, which is a part of the Autistic Spectrome. I was very glad to hear the show’s pediatrician agree on not vaccinating a baby if autism is in the genes.

I agree with golfmom9. I so disagree with the dark haired physician (from the audience)who was so pro-vaccination. Apparently he does not have an autistic child. My son, pardon my language, went through hell all of his school years. He dealt with such depression due to how other children treated him, and his not being able to control his own behavior. I, his mother, burnt out mentally, ending up in the hospital due to having severe depression. Autism takes a horrible toll on a person. The neighbor’s kids are not the priority. Our own children are.

i agree that some vaccines causes austims but i also think that we shouldn’t stop vaccinating out children either. we need to spread OUT the vaccine schedule. JENNY MCCARTHY IS RIGHT!!! there are way too many at a very early age..and you shouldn’t be giving them to a child whose immune system is messed up to begin with.

this is the VERY VERY FIRST TIME THAT I SAW THIS SHOW…i had just happened to take the day off from work and i work at a hospital…..i work in insurance….

my son has the lowest form of autism….and when he was 2 or 3…..his speech was really bad and he could barely speak and it got worse w/ the vaccines..he was spinning and rocking…obsessed w/ fans and also lining up cars in a row…..but i do think we need to keep vaccinating or else the diseases will get out of control. there are WAY TOO MANY AT A VERY EARLY AGE…WE NEED TO SPACE THEM OUT!!!!!!!!!

I think it not only the vaccines that cause autism but I think other medications can also. My son was only 10-days old when he first got sick. He had a UTI Infection, Blood Infection and some type of Ecoli Bacteria and he was on Antibotics for 6-months of his life. We always think the doctors are right but we as parents should go with our gut instinct but does anybody know if other medication can cause autism? That my opionion of what happened to my child but who know!

I THINK it isn’t just the vaccines but it is the environment, the genetics……
immune system, maybe possible pollution and more…the foods we eat ….etc…..

There are far more worst things than having an Autistic child. My Aunt and Uncle would gladly trade shoes with you. My cousin died of mulitple organ failure at the age of 5 months. They would much rather have a child with special needs than one that is in the ground.

For those that believe that the MMR vaccine is the cause of Autism my question is why now? Why now are people trying to put a link between the two? 25 years ago when our generation was being vaccinated there wasn’t the number of Autism rates that there is now. Why are the rates so high now? If it was the MMR wouldn’t our generation have more Autistic cases also? Why isn’t the chicken pox vaccine blamed, its given around the same time the MMR vaccine is? How do we know that its not being triggered by all the antibiotics, hormones and who knows what else that is in our food supply? How do we know if its not from the air we breath? There is no proof, and I know someone said read the inserts, they have to put down every POSSIBLE reaction that a might child have. It doesn’t mean that they caused that reaction. Have you ever read the side effects to some antibiotics? One of them is “may alter mental state”, how many people do you know that have changed a mental state from using antibiotics? Drug companies do that to prevent lawsuits.

In my opinion, there needs to be extensive research (and funding) on Autism, since it is rapidly becoming one of the largest developmental disabilities today.  It’s scary to think that one in 150 children is diagnosed with Autism.  The Government can allocate billions  of dollars to bail out the banking and automotive industries, but cannot allocate sufficient dollars to fund research to better the quality of life for our children??  That is just so wrong!

There is a lot of money funded for autism research, I heard more than any other disability. Also in a County I used to live in children with autism were alloted more money for services …. which was great for us since techniques used for children with autism could be used for children wth DS :)

You are so right. Who knows if there really is a rise or if its always been at 1 in 150, since now we label everyone. It seems like there is a label on everything now a days, if your child is hyper they have ADHD, if they have mood swings, they are bi-polar. I don’t understand why we are so quick to “label” our children, why can’t we just let them be kids and have their quirks. I understand that there are extreme cases of Autism like we saw today, but not all Autistic children have outbursts like that.

You are absolutely right VegasMommy … I have seen more higher functioning (and boy I hate using that term :/ ) than the severity of autism that I see on TV. I can look back and remember quite a few kids in my school years we all thought were just a tad different, they also contributed so much to my learning, made me think.

I know in Federal Law until the child reaches age 9 we label qualifying kids DD (developmentally delayed) for school, meeting certain criteria, after that my daughter was labeled MR, she also has epilepsy so she is also health impaired. In the school system using the labels entitles your child to the appropriate educational plan whether it be individual or small group instruction, curriculum or teaching modifications, assistive technology, transition services and other specialized services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

I am wondering though if testing ever becomes available for pregnant moms who test positive for Autism in utro, will the individuals with autism become eradicated like the 90% of fetuses with DS. That would be a travesty since I know some brilliant people with autism.

I pray they don’t develop a test for Autism. Especially since those tests aren’t 100%. I actually wish they wouldn’t do the AFP testing. There are so many false positives.

Why do you think the elderly are all of a sudden coming down with alzheimers?   Drug companies are putting the same preservative that causes autism in the flu shots.   This  mercury goes straight to the brain.   And the additive is very very expensive.   If they can’t give it to the babies, they give it to the elderly.   SHAME ON THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to ask the pro-shots doctor in the audience that had an opinion about “scientific evidence” this question…What “scientific evidence” do we have that proves vaccinations DO NOT cause lasting harm or side effects to our children? Has a study ever been done comparing the health history of vaccinated children to non-vaccinated children…not just autisim but general overall health. I would be willing to bet money that if such a study was ever done, the non-vaccinated children would be healthier overall!

I have printed postcards that I pass out to every new and expecting mother/parent I see. It lists several websites for researching the “cons” of shots because you WILL NOT get that education at your doctor’s office…and you will ONLY get the pros/cons at the health department if you are there to get a religious exemption…as a way to try and scare you into following the herd. (I experienced this first hand)
