I disagree with Dr. Lisa about the Autistic child being
banned from church.  I have been a
catholic all my life and the church welcomes everyone, but like everything
there are exceptions.  The parishioners
and pastor of this church felt that this child who is 6 feet tall and weighs
over 225 pounds is very disruptive and can pose a danger to the other parishioners.

According to Walz, Adam struck a
child during mass, nearly knocks elderly parishioners over when he hastily
exits the church, spits and sometimes urinates in church and fights when he is
being restrained. He also one time assaulted a girl by pulling her onto his lap
and, during Easter mass, ran to the parking lot and got into two vehicles,
starting them and revving the engine, Walz alleged. “There were people
directly in front of the car who could have been injured or killed if he had
put the car in gear,” Walz wrote. Adam’s parents have to sit on him and
sometimes tie his hands and feet to get control of him, Walz wrote

Dr. Lisa feels that he should be allowed to attend church
regardless.  Would she feel the same if she
was at the movies with her son and this type of behavior took place?  Would she continue watching the movie and be
able to ignore the behavior of this autistic child who also paid for a ticket
and is in a public place?  I know that not all autistic children are
disruptive and pose a danger to others
, but some are more severe then others
and parents need to use common sense.   But, like my son says, “common sense is not
so common”.

I HAVE A SON WHO IS 3YRS. HE HAS AUTISM THERE ARE A LOT OF PLACES I DO NOT TAKE MY SON , FOR INSTANCE CHURCH I AM CATHOLIC MY DAUGHTER GOES SHE ALSO GOES TO CHATHISM TOO SHE IS 5YRS. NOW I KNOW SHE CAN HANDLE GOING TO CHURCH . BUT MY SON HE CANNOT IT’S TOO OVER WHEALMING FOR HIM HE GETS OVER STIMULAITED TOO SO THERE ARE PLACES HE WILL MISS BUT HOPEFULLY IN THE LONG RUN WE WILL TAKE HIM TO NEW PLACES AN HE WILL LEARN . BUT IF YOU ARE JUST TAKING YOUR KID AN LETTING HIM RUN RAPID THEN I DONT THINK HE SHOULD GO . MAYBE YOU CAN ASK FATHER TO COME TO THE HOUSE FOR PRAYER , UNTIL HE UNDERSTANDS WHAT’S GOING ON AN WHERE THEY ARE AT.THEN MAYBE HE WILL SEE CHURCH IS CALMING AN NOT BE OUT OF CONTROL , EVERYTHING TAKES TIMES IT WON’T HAPPEN OVER NIGHT I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY CAUSE I FELT THE SAME WAY ABOUT MY CHILD TOO YOU THERE PARENT IT’S NORMAL BUT YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK ON HOW TO HANDLE YOUR CHILD IN A SOCIETY THAT DOSEN’T GET CHILDREN WITH AUTISM ..

the church as well of the rest of the world must remember that we are all handycapped the only differance is that some of us show it one the outside where most of us show it on the inside its ignorace to the things we don’t understand and are not willing to accept. There is a cure for that teach your kids and practice your self to accept all for we are not that different

Autistic children should not be “banned” from anything. Parents should know the child’s triggers and should be able to address them accordingly, therefore keeping the child and the public safe. We all must learn to be accepting of others and to be helpful and understanding rather than disgusted or judgemental. One does not know the stress of autism unless you are directly touched by it. Families have to get out of the home to take care of errands and to have fun, just like anyone else. Support and understanding of others is one of the best things the general public can do to help.
