I disagree with Dr. Lisa about the Autistic child being
banned from church. I have been a
catholic all my life and the church welcomes everyone, but like everything
there are exceptions. The parishioners
and pastor of this church felt that this child who is 6 feet tall and weighs
over 225 pounds is very disruptive and can pose a danger to the other parishioners.
According to Walz, Adam struck a
child during mass, nearly knocks elderly parishioners over when he hastily
exits the church, spits and sometimes urinates in church and fights when he is
being restrained. He also one time assaulted a girl by pulling her onto his lap
and, during Easter mass, ran to the parking lot and got into two vehicles,
starting them and revving the engine, Walz alleged. “There were people
directly in front of the car who could have been injured or killed if he had
put the car in gear,” Walz wrote. Adam’s parents have to sit on him and
sometimes tie his hands and feet to get control of him, Walz wrote
Dr. Lisa feels that he should be allowed to attend church
regardless. Would she feel the same if she
was at the movies with her son and this type of behavior took place? Would she continue watching the movie and be
able to ignore the behavior of this autistic child who also paid for a ticket
and is in a public place? I know that not all autistic children are
disruptive and pose a danger to others, but some are more severe then others
and parents need to use common sense. But, like my son says, “common sense is not
so common”. <!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
