I had a heart attack in mar of this year and one doctor told me he wanted me to start lifting weights now the other said i should just keep walking.Has anyone out there suffered a heart attack and could tell me which doc is right.
I’m not a doctor, but I would say keep on walking because all the cardiac rehab programs I know of encourage walking. None have I ever heard of lifting weights, but I could be wrong….I would think it would stress you heart; but again I’m not a doctor. No matter what though walking can’t hurt because it’s how we all get around where not all of us can lift weights. So IMO I’d do the walking.
I submit that walking is a good cardio-vascular workout for a post heart attack person. Weights also add to the mix by making us use our upper body muscles; thereby, adding strength to our total being. If you try it and it hurts, then stop it. You don’t have to be Atlas on the first attempt. Even using weights adds to our range of motion which also helps our balance.
