I agree with this I’m young and I get them all the time at least twice a month. I’ve pretty much done all the same things. It’s like the antibiotics don’t even work!!!!

I too have tried eveything under the sun..so I think! I have lived with mine for 3 years. Nothing has phased it! I wonder if having Interstitial cystitis has anything to do with it? If anyone else has any suggestions please share!

I would like to know about BV too. I have that problem for long time. I found information about BV that I should eat healthly foods and execrise and drink plently water. If I start do that…will it actually cure BV?

I have been dealing with this problem for many years as well. I’ve taken the anti-biotics, cremes, and whatever else they throw at me. I’ve done plenty of research and have found a few “cures” but haven’t found anything to get rid of it completely without it coming back. I’ve never found that changing my diet has worked for me. I eat pretty healthy anyway, but not eating many starches or sugars, or whatever else they say has helped for me.

I’ve used a douche which has helped tremendously with the discharge and smell. 1 tsp acidophyllus and 2 cups water. I know they say not to douche, but acidophyllus is replacing the good bacteria in the vagina, which I’m sure all of you know bacterial vaginosis is when bad bacteria overrides the good in the vagina. This douche has been my life saver while still trying to find a permanent cure. I do it maybe once or twice a week. I’ve seen douches where it says to use hydrogen peroxide, that works as well..but it burns a little and dries out the vagina a little bit. The acidophyllus is the best to use by far. You can also take it orally or even put a capsul in the vagina, it’s still very safe.

I’ve also read about this drug called Tindamax. Apparently it’s suppose to stop the re-ocurring that happens and has about an 85% success rate. And believe me I’d be willing to try it no matter what it costs to get rid of this frustrating problem. I live in Canada and it’s not approved here yet which is why I haven’t tried it. So if anyone tries it and it helps, let me know, and I’ll talk to my gyno about what I can do about getting it here.

Hope I’ve helped you!

Okay i just read about this BV update in the reviews in obstetrics & gynecology journal volume 2 winter 09 says to use Tinidazole and it’s the first new agent to be approved for treatment of BV in almost 20 yeasts. It the second generation nitroimidazole approved for treatment of trichomoniasis, making it the only oral agent approves for both. It has a twice longer serum, half life than metronidazole. Side effects have been reported to be better as well.

Tinidazole is the main ingredient in Tindamax. Believe me I’ve looked up even the second generation to Tinidazole (generic versions too) and none of it is approved up here. So please ladies, give this drug a shot!! What’s the harm really?? I have to get referred to a specialist, then have to see if no other drugs approved in Canada work (which they don’t I’ve tried), then I can get a Canadian Drug Referral to see if they’ll even approve it for me to try.

Take the drug. I would have by now if I could. End the suffering.

Hello ladies. I have researched BV for a long time because I know lots of woman with it. I have heard that a temporary relief over the counter drug works wonders, its called RePHresh and it balances the PH in the vagina. It lasts about 3 days with each application. All you do it insert the tube into the vagina and push the cream into it. I really hope this helps, thanks for sharing all of your stoies

I’ve heard of RePHresh but up here in Canada it’s almost $25-30, so that’s not really an option for me. Doing the acidophyllus douche (1 tsp acidophyllus-2 cups water) I think might be better. It usually lasts 3-4 days and its not a messy creme that may leak out. Has anyone taken Tindimax yet??? I would really like to know if it works. I’ve heard it cures up to 80% of all recurring cases.

Please – I could use some help w/ this too. My problem is ever since my hysterectomy ( they too k everything out ) can you get this Bacteria in your colon too? I am fishy smelling “back there” (on and off in vagina) ever since the hysterecotmy and my dr said it was nothing. Now reading these posts I think i have a bacterial thing going on , my female dr. kindof acted strange about it and made me feel “unclean” but it doesnt matter how well or often I wash, its still not pleasant! I did have a bacterial thing after the hyst. but never had any meds for it, could it have just stayed in the ‘area’?

HUGE problem for me as well.
Another one of those things that makes u feel disgusting, even when u KNOW u are taking excellent care of your body.

I keep getting recurrent infections, and its been at least a year since my first. Very annoying, and my dr once again cannot give me something to permanently take away the problem. I look forward to being able to come on here and tell u all something that works!

The crap we go through as women :/

DO NOT USE ANTIBIOTICS! They will make it worse!!! Antibiotics strip away the good bacteria and that’s what throw you off balance. Acidophilus pills…take them daily and you should be OK. After sex, I usually double up for a day or two. Lots of water too. I had such a hard time with it and when I was told to take Acidophilus the problem quickly became controllable. Now I hardly ever have an issue but I continue to take Acidophilus daily. Not yogurt or things that contain live bacteria…take the actual pills. You can get them at most health food stores. If they don’t have them they will usually know where to get them. They are usually found in a refrigerated section but I’ve been to GNC and they have some non-refrigerated acidophilus that I’ve tried that seem to work just fine.

Good Luck Ladies!!

It’s my first day on this site and went straight to this topic. As most you I also suffer from BV. I dont know how the infection started, it could be from poor diet. I’m not convinced it’s due to my personal hygiene I shower everyday and wash diligently in that area. Its taking a toll on my sexual relationship with my partner, it’s quite embarrassing. I notice that when I wear something really tight (underwear and pants) it triggers the smell. I have discharge that is intollerable. Like most of you I am desperate to find what will help this embassing dillema.

I’ve tried yogurt and have it daily, I have good days but it still comes back. Oneofeach I’m going to try buying Acidophilus pills, thank you.

Looking forward to hearing more helpful solution from all of you ladies. I will regularly read on ..

Til then.

epanema…don’t forget to drink lots of water. I actually drink about 100 ounces a day (you probably don’t need to drink that much, just what is recommended 60 ounces I think). I forgot to mention that there are different concentrations of Acidophilus. Some work better for me than others. Get small bottles and try them out til you find the one that works best for you. Also DO NOT douche. When you douche you strip your body of the “good” bacteria along with any other bacteria. One of the reasons you are having a problem is you don’t have enough “Good” bacteria in your system to fight the other stuff.

I douche with the acidophollus pills….which is still replacing the good bacteria….i use 5 capsules..with about a cup of water..so its not a huge douche..but it helps…i find that when you orally take the pills…it doesnt work as well.

Icon_missing_medium oneofeach 4 posts

Ya, I’m talking about the regular douches you buy at the store. I think your idea sounds interesting and if I still had issues I would probably try that but the pills work great for me.

Icon_missing_medium epanema 2 posts

i will take lacester’s idea if taking pills orally does not work for me. i just read online as home remedy, that using new tampon dipped in natural yogurt and inserting normally is a great way to fight off the problem. as i mentioned on my previous thread eating yogurt should help and this home remedy sounds logical and i will probably try that as well.

I am so glad I am not the only woman suffering from this horrible infection..this infection has become such a herendous problem for me..I seriously feel like I am going to loose my mind…I’ve had BV for about 4 months now and have tried flagyl and metro gel..I thought I had gotten rid of it, had relief for about a month ,but now it’s back again..it’s starting to affect my marriage, my life, everything..I’ve heard about the tampon dipped in yogurt has anyone tried that does it really work..I have to admit I was taking the acidophillus pills everyday and eating yogurt and that did seem to work pretty well for me..but once I THOUGHT I was better I quit taking them..I guess I should probably start taking them better..I am desperate to find something out there that permantely gets rid of this..any help would be greatly appreciated..
