Randee this is a wide range issue. First off, how old are you? How long has this happened? Where is the pain, vaginally or externally? Is your partner possibly to large because this can be an issue that NO ONE talks about in public. Also, do you use any form of lubrication?

Sex is painful to almost all women who have fibromyalgia!!! My first experience with my husband in 1978 was so painful that within the week I was at the emergency room because of pain that would not stop. It is unexplainable to doctors because unless you are diagnosed with fibromyalgia the painful sex issue will go “untreated” indefinately. I had painful sex for more than 15 years before I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. This is also one symptom that they do not tell you about when you receive a fibromyalgia diagnosis. I was lucky that I felt comfortable enough with my doctor that I asked him about this issue after being diagnosed. He informed me that it was a very common but frequently addressed symptom of fibromyalgia. This may be presumptious with the little information that you provided but you might want to be checked by an Arthritis doctor to see if you have Fibromyalgia. Once you get a diagnosis then you can begin learning about treatments. I suggest KY long lasting vaginal moisturizer as a lubricant if you need one. It lasts up to 4 days and you can use it without your partner ever knowing you are treating the problem. GOod luck!

could be interstitial cystitis.  After months and months of different doctors’ appointments, multiple tests, scans, etc., and narcotics, and nearly having a diagnostic laparotomy, we are now leaning toward the interstitial cystitis diagnosis and I will be seeing a urologist next week.  Check it out!  It is very often misdiagnosed and your symptoms sure sound like mine.  Good luck.

I have always had very heavy periods. Terrible cramping ( like my insides were falling out). I had 2 laporoscopys the second one they ended up doing a myomectomy (removed 2 large fibroids from uterus.) Now its two years later fibroids grew back and a cyst joined them!! One Dr. said Endometriosis one said adenomyosis..who knows….
Thanks for the info..

The list of what can cause pain for women during sex are many fold:

1. Vaginismus

2. Endometriosis

3. Prior trama

4. Many different types of infection.

Many other things I can’t remember.
