I saw the subjects for today’s show and need info. 2 years ago my son suffered a sub-arachnoid hemorrhage after being hit with a baseball. He now has to take Dilantin for seizures but that is the only after effect that we are aware of at this time. Miracle! I would like some information/statistics on this type of injury and long term side effects of Dilantin. |

On December 26, 2008 my husband and I went for a walk with our baby and dog. Two houses down from ours we both slipped on some ice hidden underneith a thin layer of snow. We both hit our heads; my husband was stunned but I was knocked unconscious. I was rushed to the local hospital and checked out. They told my husband that I had a bad concussion and I could go home. Luckily my husband insisted on my having a ct scan. There isn’t a ct scan at the local hospital and would have to go to the neighbouring town for one. He was also told that there was an 8 hour wait for an ambulance to take me there. He didn’t want to have to do it, but he wasn’t waiting 8 hours so he loaded me into his van and took me there himself. Luckily, I was clear of any bleeding or swelling on my brain (but the ct scan did show a nasal infection!), but I did suffer amnesia. I don’t remember most of December of last year. I don’t remember anything of my son’s second Christmas, or the week following Christmas. It was shortly after my accident that Natasha suffered her unfortunate head injury and died. My husband and I don’t speak of it, but I am so incredibly thankful that, in the stressful situation he was in, he had his bearings to insist on a ct scan. It could have meant my life. |
